Rep Power: 107 | Colleen Sparks colleen.sparks@arizonarepublic.com The Arizona Republic Dec. 2, 2004 12:00 AM After recovering from skin cancer, 17-year-old Jacky Sims of Ahwatukee Foothills has become a teen spokeswoman in the Valley for safety in the sun. The Desert Vista High School junior is trying to convince other teenagers that they aren't invincible. Her message: Always wear sunscreen when outside and avoid tanning beds. Sims tells them her story of being diagnosed with melanoma at 15, and the painful recovery after having a cancerous tumor removed from her chest. Rep Power: 24 | TE, Your are right on the mark. We are an un-regulated state and I willnot let anyone under 14 tan period. 15 to 18 required written parental permission. Preferably with the parent in front of me. If they come in together, I explain my policies and make sure they are aware of why I have set them. |

Rep Power: 22 | OH NO..parent must come in to sign, I would make that a rule. Girl you dont know who writes the permission or signs it. Have them in front of you, they could say they didnt sign it. I have step parents wanting to tan kids, nope if you dont have documentation stating you have gardianship you dont sign release, I need a birthright parent. I am not putting my kids livilihood on the line for no one. |

Rep Power: 24 | Most of the time Mommy is with them...Last night i had one that refused to use eye protection and even when I tried to explain our policy, she grabbed daughter and bolted out the door.. Too bad too, as I could have used the money. But even if people are stupid, I'm not going to risk my salon, or scruples. |

Rep Power: 0 | About a year ago I red a story in the newspaper. It was more of a local newspaper. The story had a girl that got skin cancer. She was into track and beach volleyball also. She told the paper I want to warn young girls never to tan in tanning beds indoor. I just don't want somehting like this to happen to them. It turned out the dumb broad tanned indoors only a couple times. Also turned out that the lady at the paper wanted to go after indoor tanning since her daughter was over doing she so claimed after people wrote in for several months. |
