Rep Power: 0 | We have regulated ourselves. We don't tan under 14 and require special form under 16. Lots of teens here that spend $$$$. DWhite is right, there is tremendous buying power at this age group...Look at teen retailers, such as Abercrombie and Game Stop. We don't target teens but we take'm...and get a lot of parents from the kids. New to the industry but not new to business...when regulation starts, especially if an industry is misunderstood or not looked upon favorably, it does not stop...it may not be this year or next, but it will become increasingly restrictive. NOT GOOD FOR US!! The broader question is "what do we do?", wish I had suggestions but I don't...I'm more than willing to help out with any good suggestions. |

Rep Power: 21 | I don't see a problem with the rules the way they were written. Texas is probably one of the most regulated states and i don't have a problem with any of them. we have the same age rule and i have had only one time that i had to turn someone away. also if the child is under the age of 16 a parent or legal guardian must be in the the salon while the child is tanning. No parents dropping a child off and no 18 year old sister bringing them in. Just my opinion but when you have no regulation you have the anything goes mentality and that can bring abuses and that can cause harm to the industry.Every business has regulations that it must follow, why should the tanning industry be any different. The salons that are following the rules are the one being harmed by the ones that do what ever they want. If you want to be thought of as a professional, you must act like one. |

Rep Power: 21 | Alot of time and money was spent on passing this law in California. We have a budget crisis, a higher than usual unemployment rate, etc., and my legislators are passing laws to solve problems that don't exist. I guess I'll have to turn away that horde (not) of 13 year olds wanting to tan! However, the assemblyperson who sponsored the law got worldwide attention, including time on the morning talk shows. Gee, do you really think it was about the kids? |

Rep Power: 0 | no....not at all....but I think some are missing the point.....ITS NOT ABOUT HOW MANY UNDER 14 YOU TAN....IN CASE YOU DO NOT REALIZE I AM SCREAMING......ITS NOT ABOUT HOW MANY UNER 14 YOU TAN....if we do not pull together as a industry....it is going to get worse.....noone has any other information other than Skin Cancer.....we have not come close to fighting this.....I am told ...."we all need to come together and get along".....I am sorry but.....once again not the point....if someone would like to PM me that cares and we can start something.....please do! But complaining and doing nothing is not my style..... |

Rep Power: 0 | you know if they had a plan....we could listen...but to say "send us your credit card number" and your "Tax Deductiable" contribution.....what does it mean...what are we doing?....Pick 10 markets....or 20....and lets go....the industry is changing...and we need to change the way we are presenting ourselves....we need a make over..... |

Rep Power: 23 | I send my $500 every year in sept for cheaper rate at the convention. I have pleaded for years with the uppidys for some positive PR. When will they learn this is not the same industrie it was 20 years ago. How about the franchises and chains ? Good PR could triple their income ! Bob |
