Most of the owners are part time (true?). Is it really so easy to run a salon?

If you make over $60k/year with your other job, does it make sense to dedicate full time to the salon/salon chain to grow the biz?

i don't think that the reason some of us are stressing and whining is due to the fact that it is "so easy"

That's ok, Kool. It builds character and believe this, when you're in a small towne, your clients appreciate that you have to work just as hard at your business as they do at the jobs that pay for their tanning.

After surfing the site, there seems to be two totatally different species/razes of tan owners: the ones that work 80 hours in an owned salon to make $20k/year (profit), and the ones with larger salons in cities that make $100k (profits), who have employees doing the job.
If you invest 80-100k to set up a 5 bed salon that makes a $20k profit (without considering the shadow cost of your own salary) it does not seem to make sense.

what makes you think we will only make 20k profit.... every salon in every market is totally different.... You cannot tell us that it doesn't make sense...

Did not mean to offend, just making some newbie calculations:

5 units x 5 sessions each per day x $7 per session x 350 days = $ 61.250 per year. Considering a profit margin of 33%, it makes a 20k profit per year.

Is there anything materially wrong about the assumptions? (the industry's information change substantally depending to whom you talk)

Tkx

yeh, well if I believe every sales person that sold me beds I would have already been a millionaire after my first few month... Not the case... I have 6 beds, but going to 9 soon...Also not everyone charges $7 per session... I have a couple of beds that get $12 per session... And I really don't think I will only get 5 sessions each in a day... I do more than that now in offseason....
