Rep Power: 21 | An old report, but still applicable: Suburban Tanning Salon Alleged to Be Front for Prostitution Special investigators with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department have shut down an alleged prostitution operation in what purported to be a Carmichael tanning salon. Beach Tanning was housed in an unassuming house that fronts on Fair Oaks Boulevard just south of El Camino. Detectives say the business was just one of a number of fronts being used for prostitution. According to investigators, the business was part of a network of similar operations generating thousands of dollars each week. Detectives arrested 45-year-old Myong Smith for running a house of prostitution. Smith is being held in lieu of a $60,000 bond. Detective warn they are continuing an aggressive crackdown on prostitution, and vow to target customers of the operations as well as the owners. As part of their focus on curbing prostitution and other crimes, the sheriff's department is seeking a legal basis to permanently close down businesses housing criminal operations. "We're also working with the county government to put some teeth into an ordinance to where we can actually shut the business down, where it can't reopen," said Sgt. Lou Fatur. |
