Rep Power: 0 | I decided not to open a tanning salon. It was a hard decision for my wife and I. We spent so much time getting financing, writing a business plan, looking for a location, going through architectural designs and coming one day close to signing a lease. But it seems like all of the negatives outweigh the positives. I am a bit sad but am looking forward to doing something else with my money. I want to thank all of the people that helped me on this web-site, and would like to offer a bit of advise for all future salon owners, 1. Write a Business Plan (Make sure to include an exit strategy) 2. When looking for space, make Electrical Power your top priority 3. Check out your competition, know the beds they have and the prices they charge 4. Find a good electrician, get to know terms like "Continuous Load", "Amps", "Volts", "Single Phase" and "Three Phase". Well I think that is enough for now. I wish you guys best of luck, I will poke my head in every now and then just because I like this forum. Oh Yeah, by the way...I am an Architect, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. |

Rep Power: 0 | I did allot of research that is why I am backing out. I do not feel comfortable spending all of my liquid money for a risky reward. I think that you need over$150K to invest, avoid leasing companies and have enough money to carry you for at least 6 months. I also belive you need to diversify by adding other services to your salon such as Massages, Spa Treatments and definetly Sunless Tanning. At least this is what I know about the NY area. Either way, I learned allot and had fun doing it. I enjoy the business spirit of this forum and hope to add where I can. |

Rep Power: 0 | I hate to admit it but I agree with Engfant It is far better to thoroughly research something and decide against it than to just jump in with both feet and then wonder 'what the heck happened?' Good Luck! |
