Rep Power: 0 | I’m currently planning on opening a salon. It seems to me that a lot of salon owners are discouraging people who want to own a salon and telling them not to got through with it. I understand it takes a ton of research and time. It's a hard business and risky...but... what new business doesn't require hard work and risk? You need to work hard at anything you want to do well in. Sometimes the ups and downs of finances are out of your control and that again happens with any business. So, salons owne...why discourage others when you have your own salon? I do understand warning people about the ups and downs. I think it’s best to help not discourage. I think that all the people who want to start their own salon need to know is tanning salons are NOT a get rich quick type of business. So, again why discourage others dreams when you fulfilled yours? I’m just asking...I'm not trying to be mean... |

Rep Power: 23 | I think it really depends on where your from. Some areas say like most of florida just have to many salons. There does not need to be a salon on every corner. In those conditions no one makes any decent money. Flick |

Rep Power: 23 | You sure it was the number 6 ? Another reason, Some new owners loose intrest when their not rich in a couple of years. They tend to let things go while trying to get out,and thats a bad reflection on all of us. I'm not saying that we will not help, you just asked a question. Flick |

Rep Power: 22 | Kimberleigh----I too, am going to be opening a new salon next month. I have your same thoughts exactly. If you work as hard as you possibly can, do your homework and still fail; you have at least tried. Your words are well spoken and I commend you for saying them. Thank you |

Rep Power: 21 | I think everyone should be discouraged from following their dream. If they persevere in spite of it (barring extreme foolishness for ignoring obvious wisdom) then maybe they've got some of what it takes to succeed in business. There are many who think being their own boss means they're rolling in cash and get to take holidays 6 months of the year. The reality is that most businesses fail to make a profit for 5 years. |

Rep Power: 23 | The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal.....but having no goal to reach. You will never know if you're salon is successful until you open one! Keep reading these forums for advise, suggestions etc. and I say go for it. :0) |

Rep Power: 20 | I say go for it, but have enough money to carry you through. Don't rely on your sales. I totally financed my own salon and I found my calling. I love it, but it cost more than I thought and it is about to drain us. Don't get me wrong, I am still tanning people and I had a good day yesterday and today, but it's not enough because I didn't start out with enough $$ in the bank and I am paying my salon bills from my household. Can't do that for four more months or I will be broke...broke. I've tried everything and nothing is coming through right now. So I am taking it as a sign and I have talked to a potential buyer today. Hate to, but can't let my house go. Make sure you have several months expenses in the bank!! Good luck and go for it!!! |

Rep Power: 0 | People might be negative just because this is the hardest part of the year for alot of us... I'm in a really tight spot right now myself trying to come up with 4500.00 just to keep the doors open... Give it everything you possibly can, be positive! Get negative people out of your life and keep trying. |

Rep Power: 22 | These are the same poeple who laugh at me whwn I say we pay double rent during the busy season so we dont have to worry about when it is slow. Kim I think a lot of people dont like the choice they made. If I had the time and money I would also try to open my own salon. Good luck! |
