im desperately searching for a nail tech for my tanning salon.

ive considered putting an ad in the local paper, but that runs something like $300 with not much guarantee of results.

iv heard about getting ahold of some type of "list" that you can buy from the state dept. i believe? it lists all the licensed nail techs in your particular area and their contact info.

ive done a bit of searching online and came across this website.

http://appsext4.dos.state.ny.us/lcns_public/lcns_query.bus_name_search_frm

its a search for new york state licensees. i select my county, and then search for "nail" or "nails" at-least 160 names came up. i plan on sending out a mailing to everyone on this list thats at-least somewhat close to my salon.

am i on the right track here, or not? also, isn't this a listing of people who are already either owners or people working at nail salons? why would they want to come rent a space at my salon ?

any other tips for finding a nail tech for a salon would be much appreciated! thanks

Advertising will work but so does word of mouth. We have 3 nail techs, we provide most of the equipment and we take a % in thier sales/service. We do not charge a rent. Also have RMT and do Micro Abrasions etc etc. Great for networking we have kicked *** with our new competitor down the street. Make sure you have an air cleaner next to your nail tech or vent outside though. (or use gels)

weve tried word of mouth and nothing really materialized. we have a sign up in the window advertising "nail space", i know that isnt much but that hasnt brought many serious folks in.

im not against advertising but $300 is a lot if theres no payoff in the long run.

anyone have any advice about contacting licensees who are on this list that i provided a link for?

We have a local college that has a cosmotology dept. Ask them

are you sure that you want a nail salon and tanning combined..i have heard ALOT of people complain about the smell and personally i wouldnt tan at a salon that also did nails..it was really the thing to do here but most tanning salons are fasing it out doue to complaints..thought id pass that on

It all depends on how your salon and airflow are set up. We had 5 nails techs and never had a problem with tanners complaining. We has since closed our nail area and added more beds----best move we could have made! Beds don't argue, call in sick or have PMS all at the same time

I would suggest calling your local beauty school. They might know of recent graduates looking for work. Check with your state licensing agency to check on requirements for licensing a nail salon. Each state is different but ours requires that you have a separate license from your tanning salon. There also is a requirement of having a salon manager with at least 6 months experience so unless you are licensed you would have to employ someone who has already worked for several months.
Good Luck

I am thinking about putting a nail tech in my salon, she would be renting a room, the room is the perfect size for all the equipment and displays that would be needed. But I am unsure because I don't want to have to deal with the smell or installing a ventalation system. Would I really need one if there is only one nail tech in a seperate room?

We have one nail tech in about 1400 sq ft. She is open to everything, (not in room) and it is not a problem at all. First of all, one nail person can only turn out so many people a day... it's really no big deal. And it is a great stady booth rental income for owner, as well as new possible tanning clients. Good Luck!!
