I don't own a stand up unit.... I have a few lay down beds. I Have a question for those of you with experience in stand up's. Is a client less likely to sweat as much in a stand up unit vs. a lay down bed? If so, why?? Thanks!

Ralph

They will get warm and my sweat some, but they are not gonna be drenched in it...the type of bed you get makes the difference. The airflow in a Suncapsule is awesome and you dont get sweaty.

It may also depend on how well the room is vented and how many times the unit has been used. As already pointed out, some standup have a lot of airflow. Suncapsules Cyclone is a good example of a lot of airflow. Too much in my opinion. A 22 mph wind shooting up your butt is a bit much............

I have a Sunsource STS with 48 160 Watt VHR Lamps. It has a huge fan on the top and a vented floor. I tan in it most of the time and never sweat. My stand up doesn’t get that much use overall but the customers that do use it don’t seem to have a problem with sweating.

As the others have said, it will depend on the model you purchase. I don’t want to bash a brand but the Sundome seems to have a reputation of being extra hot inside. No matter which one you pick, get one with a large ventilation fan and a vented floor. The booths with solid floors seem to be a little warmer. The reason is simple. Hot air rises and cool air falls. Pulling the cool air from the floor up through the booth will help keep the temperature lower.

It’s also a known fact that the amount of A/C in the building will make a difference as well. Ceiling height also plays a roll too. When I was testing salons and beds back before I opened my salon I ran into several beds that seemed hotter than the identical bed in another salon. After looking into it further I discovered that what may seem extra hot in one place was rather cool in others. I’m sure with proper ventilation and A/C, you could make almost any bed or stand-up cooler. But don’t make it too cool, because some tanners will get the false impression that the stand-up/bed is weak.

A lot of our lunch time tanners prefer the stand up because they say they don't sweat as much. My theory is that because they are not laying on the acrylic surface of the bed with no airflow under their backside the perspiration is taken care of by the fans and doesn't have a chance to collect on their skin.
