Been a victim of underhanded tactics by your competition. I'm curious to read how they have PO'd you lately!

I love it when they call and ask about prices and types of beds & lamps. You know it is someone from a salon because of the questions they ask.

We have a monthly calendar with different specials each month. One customer brought one in from a 2 bed salon about 10 miles from here that they had copied almost directly from ours. Not really our competition but still I did the work and they copied it.

I love when they call and ask crap like "are your bulbs new?" Yes they are. Or when they come in and brag that they bought their bottle of "accelorator" for $2 bucks cheaper at the other place. Then they show me the bottle of GO Dark they paid $38 for. Then I show them the reduced bin which is basically all of the goop they sell down the street for the price of a sample. Ha ha losers. Go down the street and tan for free. Come to me when you are ready to pay. ACTUALLY. HAS anyone ever accused the local paper of foul play? Seems that everytime I run an ad the competition has one in there the same week? Or maybe the ad I place has a mistake? Thank you drive through.

Some of the tactics the comps use are pathetic. When I first opened they would tell them not to buy a package from us because we are new and would close at anytime and they would lose there tans. Another one from a so called salon, would tell there clients that we never change our lamps, meanwhile they have had the same lamps for 3 yrs., plus the duct tape on the acrylics, no air cond., and not even a floor fan to help with cooling, plus the shag carpet on the floor for the last 30 yrs. and on top of all that, once their clients sweat like pigs, no towels, just a brown paper dispenser on the wall, same stuff I use in our crap room. They are in business because they only charge $3.00 for a steam/tan.

That's it, hasn't anyone been the victim of some nasty antics by their fellow salon owners?

We had a new salon open at the other end of town, this girl had tanned with us once. Amazing her salon decor was exactly like ours. Now every Sunday morning she brings her vehicle to our parking lot (of course it has her salon name on it) and she parks it there for 2 - 3 hours, two weeks ago, she got a booth at the mall and sold all the same lotions we have for cost price. She is P#$%$% me off.

I had a client like that a couple of years ago, she is a hairdresser and after tanning with us for quite awhile she opened her own hair/tanning salon. Still does hair, but the tanning is gone. Hmmmmmmmmm.....

I was going to purchase this salon down the road before opening my salon. The lady who was going to sell, was asking to much and I told her if she didnt except my proposal I was going to open another salon in town. Of course she turned it down, and we starting opening down the road. Every morning when we would come in there were hand prints on the windows where someone had been looking in. Anyway, the salon down the street kept dropping their prices and sending coupons to their clients, the clients would tan down the street on the cheap months and come back here when the package was up. Well, that salon closed after 1 year under the people who did purchase it, I even went to talk to the owner when they were closing and ask if the pervious owner told her that I was going to open a salon and she said no, I said thats because she knew it and wanted out of that salon. The reason I was able to go talk to her is they wanted me to buy their Sunvision beds. NAh, I didnt buy them, I have Sundash Beds. Now I have another new salon in the walmart plaza, which will be moving down the road from me by march(new walmart)I dont know why they would open there. Anyway, they have started the rumors, and the owner called here a few weeks back and I just came in the next day and called them back, told them that if they needed help marketing to let me know, they were more than welcome to come down and get a price sheet. I also told her that dropping her price would only run her out of business not me. I had already been through the rumor mill with one salon, and would go again if needed, because they were gone. OF course she was real nice and said they didnt say anything bad about me and said they heard I said this and that, I told her, that I tell my clients what kind of beds they have with 100 watt lamps, even the DR kern they have, My beds are 120 and 160 watt lamp beds, they dont compare, bottom line. Anyway, thats what I deal with. Alot of the nail and hair salons send their clients to me, they dont have time to deal with tanners, thats what they tell me.
