Helios v10 arrived today - even though I am not on a Helios contract. I have v9 and the v9 dongle. I am scared to install Helios 10 in fear that it will require a v10 dongle (?) and it will mess my v9 data up.

Does anyone have any information on this?

Chris

Don't know for sure Chris but I would guess it won't work without the v.10 dongle.

Chris, you do need a new dongle to operate V10 outside of demo mode.

Installing V10 will not mess up your V9 data, BUT you will not be able to operate V9 without copying the new V9.4.5 executable out of the Upgrade directory on the V10 CD AFTER you install V10.

As with prior upgrades from Helios, once V10 is install you would then do the Convert from V9 to V10 of your data ... after you have ensured yourself you really want to do the convert. Make sure that you have the lastest version of V10 ... most CD's are V10.0.70, that old version is disaster, the lastest upgrade is V10.14 much improved but reports still need work in my opinion.

Helios will be able to give you one CD with all of the 3 intermediate versions on them (well at least they gave me one a couple of years back for a client).

Before you start, backup up you V6 data, and do a Rebuild of all the DataFlex files.

Best if Helios give you instructions to go through the process.

Not sure what you are referring to here DNCANNY.

You can get a Demo version of Helios by contacting them by phone or website www.heliospos.com

If you are asking if someone has a older version (ie: V9 or V8) you will only be able to use it in demo mode because your need a dongle (V9 copy protection key) or activation code for V8. Both of which were/are supplied by Helios.

You would be better served to get a current demo, because that is what Helios is currently shipping.

Hope this helps ...

Andy, we are trying to economise. If somebody has an older version wouldn'they also have the key?

We have been using 4.???? for something like 10 years and it does everything we need. Problem is the computer is totally locked up. We have the 5 1/4 floppy but we cannot unlock the darned thing!

Old dongles had to be returned or you would be charged some big amount of money...I think $750 or something. I know I don't have any old dongles.
