the airbrush tanning industry would have us all believe that this is the wave of the future. I've sent several people to these airbrush booths... and the result has always been the same.. 1st day GREAT... 2nd day.. still Great....3rd day.. "I look like a leper, what have I done?" does anyone think like I do, that the airbrush craze will fade just as quickly as their tan seems to??

rumproaster 09-06-2003 04:42 PM

I beg to differ I have never had an complaint from a single customer maybe someone needs to take a longer look in to the type of solution rather than blamming the booth.

How about understanding the human skin??? How about splaining to the kiddies that it is just a stain on the deadest layer of their skin.... and that it is NORMAL for the skin to shed ~ and that proper moisturizing is KEY to prolonging the look of this STAINED skin - and even still - - when first starting out - they may need to have ANOTHER application by day 3-4 .... Solutions can suck - - the actual booth can suck (want to talk about meters???)

The fact is - - unhappy people have a right to an explaination - - and any consumer has the RIGHT to full disclosure on performance, expectations and safety.

Hey Shiela thanks for your input. Yes I know that it is a stain, and that it is applied to the deadest layer of skin and will surely flake off in a couple of days. And I absoulutely agree that the customers have the right to know what they are getting into. Here's my question then: If the Airbrush tanning was designed and is marketed to those who want UV free tanning.... how do we promote that? Example, how can I offer an airbrush tan to someone going on vacation and just wants a little color, but doesn't want UV exposure, KNOWING that in a few short days they are going to look awful unless they have access to another session??

Rumproaster: I see that you are a distributor, I assume of the airbrush systems. That you have NEVER had a complaint is unbelievable to me. I wasn't necessarily blaming the booth, I was merely speaking to the results that airbrush tanning seems to leave our clients with. Perhaps you would like to enlighten me in the arena of airbrush tanning. Admittedly I know very little and would appreiciate any input you have.

Anyone that wants to promote UV Free tanning needs to do so with the ability to communicate to each client that EVERY ONE's skin is different.... I would suggest the client have MORE than one session of sunless (if that is at all possible) so that the skin accepts the stain better.... I would also ask them to be careful using strong - deoderant soaps (a highly moisturizing body soap is better for color retention based on what I am reading)....

Prior to each service - the night before the client should use a good quality exfoliant - not necessary on face - and a good moisturizer (luminous, SB or Angel all good.... but NO OILS)....

Pat dry - NO ruff stuff with the towel..... allow the application to 'cure' - no massive sweating activities or water stuff....

go for a second application (following the same guidlines) 3-4 days later.....

Use extreme care in the sun - (due to this not really giving any protection) and avoid chlorine pools and hot tubs (if you really are concerned about the color)....

I would also imagine that after 2 or so sessions of a spray booth or airbrush method.... the Sunless lotions will also be easier to apply and give better color results then with NO spray dha.... There are lotions that have dha additives - and these would certainly be one way to get good skin care and that dha boost to help the look of the color.

But for the love of all that is good in this world..... promote it WITHOUT bashing the sun or uv tanning ~

DHA is not a stain....if it were a stain then everyone who use sunless solutions or lotions would all have the same color. Each and everyone of my clients will look different once the tan developes. The DHA reacts with amino acids. The color guide that is used so the tech can see where the spray is and so the client can leave with a tan washes off.

I have people who use the tanning beds daily and would never want to be airbrushed. The airbrushing has not cut into the tanning bed clients. It has just brought a group of people into the salon who would never have come in before. I spray people who have used the beds and try to tan in them and in the natural sun they only burn. Others have a history of cancer in the family or have had some kind of cancer and this is something that makes them feel good. Everyone feels better with some color.

It is a STAIN.

the END resultant color is dependant on the ORIGINAL color of the client -

It is approved to impart color (the stain) to the human skin.

It may 'look' tan in color.....

But it is not a 'Tan'.

Quote:DHA is not a stain....if it were a stain then everyone who use sunless solutions or lotions would all have the same color. ...

Quick honey.... edit that one out too.

Either way you look at it, airbrush tanning is here to stay. If you don't have it prepare to be left behind.....

reactcosmetics 10-03-2003 10:34 PM

I must still disagree it is not a stain. It causes your skin to discolor by a chemical reaction. It is not a stain.
