Rep Power: 22 | Hi all, I open in less than two weeks.. all is coming along fine now.. but after reading about acrylic troubles on Tantalk... I am a little fearful... If a person tans in your bed and is wearing something from Bath and Body with mineral oil... does that mean That acrylic is toast? There is no way you can be sure that someone going into your bed has not put something on their skin that day that does not have mineral oil... Bath and Body is HUGe out here... If this were the case.. I would be changing acrylic every month or more... any advice here??? I am going to let all be aware they are NOT to use products containing mineral oil before tanning in my beds... but you never know... Thanks Guys! |

Rep Power: 0 | Doubtful that one time with one person would do that in 20 minutes. I have had people use baby oil that I had to strip from the acrylic with no visible lasting effect. Anybody else have insight into this? Pam |

And it's doubtful they are doing that. It's even in the Skin Care forum here on this site that using Mineral Oil isn't so bad (see Baby-Oil post), just not when tanning. |

Rep Power: 22 | The baby oil will smudge the acrylic and is terribly hard to get off, but it will NOT damage the acryilc in one exposure, or several exposures for that matter. There is very little effect on UV transmission due to the smudge, but it just doesn't look appealing to the following customers after the smudge takes place. Don't stress out about replacing acrylics so much. Take a look at the Acrylic Life thread. |

Rep Power: 0 | The problem I've had with mineral oil is that it's almost impossible to get off the tanning surface. It has happened to me twice now. I had to go to Home Depot to by a chemical to remove it. Our regular bed cleaner won't get it off. So, that bed was down for a whole day. I hated it. I was so mad. So, now - I have a sign in the room that states my policy regarding "outside lotions". I also give out salon info cards when a new customer signs up. I hand it to them along with a business card before they leave. I've got it covered, I think - the card and then the sign in the room. And I also watch each person who comes in like a hawk to make sure their not bringing in anything. And if I smell that oil - I speak up right away (hopefully before they turn the bed on!) Basically what the warnings say is this: Please do not bring tanning lotions/oils that contain mineral oil with you to tan. The mineral oil is very damaging to the bed surface. We may ask to approve any outside products brought in. It's on a little slip of paper that includes our other important policies. It's worked so far. |

Rep Power: 0 | Why would you let someone bring their own lotion into your professional tanning salon? They should be using a professional quality lotion, not one purchased at your local discount center or Walmart. You wouldn't take your own shampoo to your hair salon, or your own oil and filter to a mechanic. Same principle. You are missing out on a big profit, if you don't push the lotion you carry. If you let them use a discount lotion, why would they want to spend more money on a "professional" indoor tanning lotion when they can purchase a cheaper brand? I have a big sign on my front door saying all lotions used at this salon must be purchased from us. Period. I also explain why they can not use discount lotions and outdoor lotions. I even have them sign a statement saying they will not use any lotion not purchased or approved by one of my technician prior to tanning. They have to actually show us the lotion an eye protection before they can tan. I have had to many problems with the other lotion that I had no choice but to come up with an agreement that each new customer, and repeat customer (once a year) must sign. I have gotten a few complaints, but they all have signed it. Once it's explained, they seem to understand. |
