John, I found this quote you had made and it raised my curiosity about putting something other than the Cosmolux 160VHR in my Suncapsule.

"There is no differance.
If they were truely a 200w lamp how is it that the Cosmolux VHR 160w, Wolff Solarium XLR 160 & the LSI Midday Sun VHO-R are compatible to both the 170w & the 200w Genesis lamps.

Put the Wolff Solarium XLR in the Radius 48 lamp standup & the results are much better.

If you have the 252 radius with the 79" lamps, they are 180w & the Cosmolux VHR 79" & LSI Signature Series 2M are good replacements".

You mentioned better results with this Wolff lamp, and I'm looking for the best results possible at a reasonable cost. I've got my SunCapsule pushing about 180Watts now with current buck/booster setting. Any suggestions??

M&C, what kind of UV numbers are you seeing with a 5.0 meter? What is the UVB content of the Black Sun lamps? Are they 200 Watt lamps?? When you say WOW, is that the comments you're hearing from your clients after using it? How long ago did you do the re-lamp? What's the expected life of these lamps?

We have not metered the units with any of our meters and they were relamped a week before our Cancun trip.

The WOW comes from both the clients and myself as I prepped for the trip.

We relamp our standups around 450 hrs as we like to keep them strong.

The more I learn about meters I no longer use them to compare the "power" of any bed or even lamps.

I use them to give relative information in a particular bed.

Therefore the best meter we own is the UV Index meter.

M&C, are the Black Sun lamps compatible with the Cosmolux VHR? Are they really 200W lamps? What about the UVB content of these lamps. Is it (UVB) higher than the Cosmolux? Is there a proprietary issue if you don't use Cosmolux lamps in the Suncapule??

BSMART,
What Suncapsule model do you have?

You have many choices.

Cosmolux VHR are a really great tanning lamp.
If you want more of a kick try the LSI Signature Series, or Cosmolux VHR TT.
These will be compatible and give a slightly faster tanning result.

If you have the Suncapsule Starship or Cyclone that comes with the Cosmolux VHR 200.
Then you can still use the lamps mentioned above, or you can use the LSI Signature Series 200. The Signature Series 200 is a 160w lamp with a stronger filament & cathode.

You can take a 400w ballast & put it on a 160w lamps, It would give great color, but the lamp would last about 3 hours. All they are doing is overpowering a lamp by stronger ballast, buck boost, or other componets to boost the power of the lamp. IT may put out 200w, but it will also decrease the life.

Don't get hooked on wattage, it means nothing. There are 100w lamps that will tan more effectively than 160w lamps.

John, I have the SunCapsule 200/69, 60 lamps and 9 minute session. It came with 160W VHR Cosmolux lamps originally. They later started upgrading me to the 200W lamps as the 160's came to end of life. I thought I'd look at what else is available as a compatible lamp since there seems to be a lot of new lamps coming to market these days.

I'm not sure I understand the statement about 100W lamps tanning better than 160W lamps. What would be the point of developing 160W systems if they didn't offer better results? I'm all EARS for a 100W lamp that can compete with 160W systems. Which ones are you referring to?

I have been away for a few days on a short vacation and I see there is a question about Black Sun.

The Black Sun Reflex is a 160w lamp. It is compatible (with paperwork) to the VHR.

We also have a Black Sun Reflex PLUS that is not compatible to the VHR, but it IS compatible to the VHR TT.

I am in the process of introducing a 180w lamp but that will be a whole different topic and the info is not available at this time.

Hope this help and thanks for trying the lamp Marty & Carol!

M&C, which Black Sun lamp did you put in your standup units? I'm looking to add a bit of WOW factor to my Suncapsule as well.
