Just watching a little TV this morning...The Other Half did a segment on Mist-On. They brought out the booth and went through the whole thing: tanning "stances", blocking creme, etc. Then they had a "volunteer tanner" go in and try it out. While he was in getting sprayed, they went into the whole spiel about "damage free tanning", how long the tan lasts, etc. You could tell he was darker within a matter of 2 minutes or so. He showed his tan line and he was considerably darker.

Does it bug anybody that Mist-on (possibly others as well) tout their products as the thing to do if you want to avoid "sun damage"?

What really bugs me is the Anti UVray statements. They do not have to bash UV tanning in order to sell those machines. UV tanning isn't the culprit at all, it is the over-exposure and the uneducated salons and public that is the damage.

The "Skin Staining" process is great for instant results, but it will not protect you from burning when out in the Real UV Rays. This is something that must be taught to the public. "Skin Staining" IS NOT a TAN.

I know how you feel Mitzi...

It seems like the UV free tanning systems bash the UV tanning machines all the time...

Its just like this other skin cleanser company that says "WORKS 3 TIMES BETTER THAN NEUTROGENA".......

Good advertising is NOT BASHING YOUR COMPETITOR! It is stating the good qualities of your product.

Its all the marketing, and they are using false advertising to get people to use their DHA SPARY machines....

I have a sunless unit and refuse to bash UV tanning. We had a news channel do a show on our uv free unit and wanted to say the same thing, that it is "safe" and uv is not. I told them no way they could leave if they were going to do that and explained the difference of over exposure. The people bashing uv rays are not educated.

Sun bashing sucks!!!!! with out the sun we dont have life.......one thing that i try to get people to realize is that they can actually have the best of both worlds. I have alot of people that start doing the Mist-On ( the best!!!!!! love it to death ) but the after wards they go into a stand up for roughly 5-7min. I try to not let them go for the full 10min, but if thats what they want and I know they have enough of a "real" tan, then by all means. But not only do they get the quick look of a tan from the Mist-On, but also start to build up the tan underneath the mist. After awhile they stop doing the mist for about 2 weeks and keep tanning, and pretty soon they are nice and tan from a bed......People that didn't think that they could tan, or that it would be bad, or that they needed to burn first in order to tan, realize that they could tan, don't need to burn, and also the benifits of lotion through the whole process.....yes tanning bashers are out there, but the people that are on the edge of being either a basher, or a tanner, when they enter in your salon......please please please let them know moderation is the key!!!!!! teach them teach them teach them.........

Here is what gets my nerves on end, the fact that the people are saying this technique is "safe"! The word "SAFE" implies that there is "NO RISK"! Well, since we know the truth here, we know that there ARE RISKS! If you don't cover your mouth, eyes and nose you could potentially inhale the spray or it could get into your eyes, which could cause serious problems. Then there is the "risk" of people thinking, "Ok, I have this tan now, I should be okay to go out in the sun, because I have a base tan!" WRONG!!!!!!!!!1

The fact is, the sprayed on tan is not one that offers any protection against sunburn! And for people to promote this method as "safer" or "less damaging" than UV tanning it is actually causing more damage than any amount of overexposure to UV ever could. It is clouding the judgment of the people using the booth. Keeping them from the truth could end up hurting them in the long run!

I have had Mystic for almost 3 years. We never say that it is safer than tanning. just an alternative for those who choose not to tan. Some of our Mystic people now do both, the combo of both is really nice. People like it because of the time they save, maybe they are under age 16,pregnant or very fair and can't get color from beds. We go over the fda reccomendation with every new client. It does not seem to concern any of my clients. We also remind them that they are not in any way protected from the sun. This will not ever take over traditional tanning. Just a nice alternative to offer.
