I am watching the Discovery Channel right now, and for those of you who are not extremely religious, scientists have discovered that we are all from Africa....

I'm Italian, so, I traced where "my" people came from that settled in the country now called Italy....they came from the Middle East, roughly, the ancient civilizations in the tygris and euphraties rivers.....also, from the ancient Greek or Roman Civilizations........all traced back to Africa.....

Isn't it SOOOO Weird.....

the thing I don't get is why we are all NOT BLACK???

The melanin protected the skin because Africa was HOT and SUNNY, the Medditeranean area is Hot and Sunny in the Summer, and still warm in the winter.....

I would LOVE to know what made many of us loose our DARK PIGMENT..

Some have it still, naturally, or with a little help from the sun.. ..but others are unbelievably white....

Wouldn't you just LOVE to KNOW the TRUTH!!!!!

In the Bible the Garden of Eden was located between the Tigris and Euphraties river. Adam and Eve were probably Dark skinned the mark that God put on Cain for killing Able might have been to make him white skinned and vulnerable to the environment. I also would love to know the truth.

After I wrote this topic, I was still watching the show.....

A scientist came on, and was talking exactly about this dilema.

The Theory is that the dark skin was "almost too good" at blocking the suns rays.....
It seems that its all about vitamin D...

As the humans traveled northward, the dark skin blocked out too much of the suns rays, and therefore, the skin was not able to produce enough vitamin D.

The people became more pale as they traveled north...hence the less daylight hours, and smaller angle of the sun.


With this theory, lets just say that a person takes the recomended dose of vitamin D everyday, and tans at the same time... Do you think that this person would be able to get darker, because the skin would not have to make the vitamin D from the Sun light???.... or is this just millions of years of evolution??? that can't be changed.....

Duck Butter

Duck remembers from history class that he moores(black, of course) came up from Africa about 1000 years ago and conquered the southern part of Europe, especially Italy(wasn't Italy then). They mated with the locals, obviously. Notice on italians, especially southern versus northern that the lips are fuller and the noses are wider. Duck has seen stuff on TLC, Discovery, etc regarding this.

For those that didn't like history class but like movies, Duck recommends True Romance. Spels it all out for you but adds a lot of guns and cocaine as well. It is a Quentin Tarentino movie.

Duck usually does not like his movies!

Wowo, I have a "wide nose", as SOLARMETER would say.(In need of a nose bridge reduction)..And, my ancesters are from the island of Procida..(spelling)??? which is in the south of Italy.....

Cool to know that possibly, I could have a mixture of African........
