Rep Power: 0 | Home? Well our charity function will begin at Work. We have been involved for a few years now in different types of charitable events during the holiday season. So much so that this past January 1st we began our own company program allowing employees to give a portion of their check to a fund that will be used for the less fortunate during the most joyful time of the year. This program is called "Sandollar Santa" and it has been a hit! 28 individuals of our staff has donated at total of $1525 since the first of the year. This season we are going to advertise in the local newspaper as well as mailouts offering a free week of tanning and announcing that we will be participating in a fund raiser for the Foster Care Alliance which provides christmas for all foster children. We chose this organization due to the fact Michael Chunn and his wife Trina have unselfishly and lovingly opened their homes to 3 foster children and since have adopted two of those children. I too am adopted so our passion for this organization hits very close to home for us. What other types of charitable events will your salons be taking part in? Has anyone been involved in such events that could lend some helpful advice? I feel we should state in our ad "A free week of tanning with a donation of $5.00 or more to this charity". Michael feels we offer the week and try to talk the customer into the donation at the desk. What do you think? So I guess charity really does begin at Home! _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Tracie Williams on 2002-09-05 10:11 ] [ This Message was edited by: Tracie Williams on 2002-09-05 10:13 ][ This Message was edited by: Tracie Williams on 2002-09-05 10:22 ] |

Rep Power: 23 | We hosted a Tan-A-Thon last year for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) We volunteer our time with local abused children and we are there voice in court. You go through training and you get a case. You visit with the child in the foster home 2 times a month or more if you like. Basically just be their friend. You look at the case, visit the relatives, mother, father, etc. (If they are trying to get the child back) Or you also help find them an adoptive home. It is very rewarding! Anyway...We sent out flyers and held one Saturday from 8-8 to tan as many as we could and donated all the money to them for clothing, educating the volunteers, etc. It was so fun! We sold appointments and took walkins also but we posted to all of our clients that we would basically not be allowing anyone that day to use their normal package. If they would like to tan the would have to purchase a spot. It was a huge success! We all had CASA shirts on and balloons! The radio station did free advertising. |

Rep Power: 0 | Nichole - That sounds fantastic! Who would I have to contact within the court system to participate in something such as the volunteer program? Local Pensions and Security office? Would this vary from State to State? |
