I have to say upfront I dont own any of the spray booths as of yet????However I did use mystic tan actually twice this week at the local competion and so far this is my feelings on it as follows .....
I am natural a whiteboy donttan much as I have had skin problems in the past so I tend to stay away from the beds I am a big guy 6"3 240 so in other words I am the perfect prospect that doesnt tan ?????
The results ,,,,First time not much I did go the 15 seconds frontand then back for 15 seconds ,My hands and feet are orange I did listen to the salon salesperson very carefully on how to use this unit and the cream you put on very heavy on your feet and hands I went back th enext day used it again some color by more streaking and lots of orange on my hands and feet again and A very uneven tan ......I have thought about buying one for this season as I have several stores at west ,,,,However after this I am going to really think about it as I run my salons close to the cuff with my clients and I dont hink they would like it very much ,,,PLUS I feel that it could be a fade ,,,Sort of what high pressure did about 5 years ago huge for two years then died a slow and for some salon owners extremely costly death ,,,IN my neck of the woods its 30.00 a pop or you can buy in bundles ,,,NO doubt by next year the price comes way down across the board and your 30,000.00 invest ????????? WELL you do the math .....I am not saying not to buy one ,,However you might want to proceed with extreme caution as the market gets flooded with them and it well by next year it wont be worth anything........
IN CLOSING its unreal how ALL OF US tanning salon owners will hackle and jackle over prices for our beds BUT when something NEW comes along WE PAY THE TOP PRICE .......THIS INDUSTRY at times really makes me WONDER ....
HAPPY SPRAYING.......
KEITH......

Can't say I've tried the Mystic Tan but we had similar problems (lack of consistency, streaking, discoloration, etc.) with the Sunless Express. Sent it back after three weeks! Until they've perfected the sunless tanning, we're staying away from it.

For anyone that is looking to profit from sunless but is unsure of the 30k investment definately look into airbrush tanning. You will make back your investment in 30-45 days and not have problems with streaking or orange hands. Airbrushing is much more labor intensive than a booth but still extremely profitable if done right.

Bob,

Let me ask you something, is your town flooded with VHR units? Is the price coming down? Has the price come down on HP? No in fact it has gone up with the new breed of HP beds.

Every one of you people who say the price is going to come down “DON’T OWN A SUNLESS UNIT”!

Get one in your store, see what goes into a session and then tell me why in the world a salons would lower the price.

Fad? Yea sunless is a 50 year old fad, that’s a good one buddy.

You had problems with sunless, how many people have been overexposed in a tanning bed? You going to sell your beds because sombody doesn’t like it?

Ask some of the people who flock to salons with sunless if they would come back to use a tanning bed. You will find out that they don’t use tanning beds and get great results from sunless, millions of people will tell you that.

Yea it’s a fad, walk around in Nashville and tell me it you still think it’s a fad. It has just begun, stained people will be everywhere and it will put money in the pockets of salon owners and take money out of the pockets of tanning bed manufactures and that is what’s at stake.

Every salon owner that spends 30K on a sunless unit this year in Nashville will be 30K less for the UV market and that has some people really upset.

I agree that sunless has it's place but not many. I've seem more sunless tanning salons up for sale in the last few months than I knew existed. For $30K there should be NO STREAKS. NO ORANGE COLOR. NO WRONG WAY TO DO IT. To invest $30K on something that I'd say (from the people I deal with) gets a 30-40% negative response is foolish. 10% negative response is unacceptable. It's funny. A company that makes the booth solution called to sell it to me in a nifty 8oz spray bottle. That doesn't sound right to me.

"10% negative response is unacceptable" pretty much rules out HP tanning, easily a 10% negative response there.

You miss the point, millions of people LOVE sunless tanning, and they are the customers. It brings in an entire new client base into the salons.

Funny thing you never see a used sunless booth for sale do you? Do some homework and you will find there are more requests for units then there are for sale.

Only kind well meaning people like yourself that do not have a sunless unit say these things, you will not hear this from those who actually own them.

How many clients get stripes on there backs when they tan? How many complain of not getting tanned under their arms? How many complain of pressure points on there backs? How many say I didn’t get anything? How many want to go for longer that the recommended time for the bed? How many think that a burn turns to tan? How many say it’s claustrophobic?

Sunless is where tanning was 20 years ago. And if you where in a salon then you would know that the pioneers that opened salons taught the public how to tan indoors one at a time. That is what is going on with sunless tanning right now. If they had the attitude you do my friend we would not be in business today.

If you don’t want to buy one, fine. You are the one who has to answer the phone everyday when it rings and the person on the other end of the line says “say do you have that spray tanning ?”

I bet that gets on your nerves doesn’t it?

By the way pros.....Ching
Cons........................Sheila

Honey - I think you are hyping this incorrectly....

There are a ton of unhappy clients of sunless.... I know cause I deal with them on a daily basis... but much of this has to do with SH*TTY prep of the skin and zero education on the part of the salon/salon staff. (same/same for UV tanning).

"Millions" of people love sunless?

Don't make me beat you

Beyond the fact that I believe in the Necessity of Ultraviolet Light for healthy living ~ ~ I am also a real stickler for less toxins in our daily lives.... it is not JUST sunless that gets my radar....

Also a real stickler for being Anti Bullsh*t . . . and Mike ~ you have to admit, there is a ton of Bullsh*t Advertising that bashes UV services for the sole purpose to SELL SUNLESS..... you cannot fault us for ripping the **** out of that.

Your outline of what clients say and feel about indoor tanning is part of the evolution of this industry.

In the 80's - - - there were ruthless ignorant people with a mission to make BIG $$$$.... we have evolved to a much more knowledable and professional group since then.... (for the most part)....

I see this RUSH to market sunless (without the necessary testing) akin to what the Yahoos did in the 80's with UV...... no concern for safety - - just CHING.

I am still open to sunless uses.... but not in a booth --- until I get what I want ~

The return clients on UV services are huge..... From what I am hearing from friends that have booths and clients that used booths.... the return visits are not there ....

Satisfaction is necessary Mike.

30 - 50 K needs the return clients to go beyond just paying for itself.

..I just wanted to add in that we have the Mystic Tan at three of our locations - and are expecting to add them in all 14 very shortly! The first unit that we purchased was essentially paid off in just a few months! It has been VERY profitable for us. Not to mention, I love the ease and color of the Mystic!

Two of our salons have the Sun Spritzer, instead of the Mystic. And while those give better color, we seem to have better satisfaction with the Mystics. We will be replacing those two units with Mystics soon as well!

love, alarris

I also own a mystic and weather you like the sunless or not the one big thing that it does and I think it was mentioned here already is BRING IN A WHOLE NEW CUSTOMER BASE!!! I get alot of older people that would NEVER tan again no matter what we tell them but they well gladly buy the mystics with no problem whipping out there wallet adn they get great color and they walk out with a smile on there face. We also get the really fair redheads that cant wait for a easy way to get a base tan. So I think sunless is a must you have to change with teh times to stay on top and sunless is the change you have to do right now
