FACT or FICTION ???

Does anyone have any additional information on this?

On Monday afternoon, I heard that Tony was going to resign later that afternoon.

On Tuesday, I heard that in fact he was fired by ETS.

Yesterday, I heard that ETS management was about to meet with CIT/Helios staff and "lay the law down" - whatever that means.

If true, this is 2 months longer than my ticket in the "how long will Tony last as an employee" pool.

If true, where does that leave the Helios V10 "Final" release, and the many issues that need to be resolved.

If true, did the encryption of data in Helios V10 and/or the removal of same contribute to this decision.

If true, where does that leave the much awaited Helios V10 WAN product.

If true, hey Tony - what are your plans for the future

If false, amazing how these "rumours" get started - I heard this from a number of different sources, some of which had according to their statements talked directly to Tony.

If Tony did in fact retire, there would be cause for celebration.
One less crook at ETS, but tons left to go.
I will give the Devil his due however.
Helios is a very good program.
If it only had very good management to go with it.
Hey PC,
Make an offer

Andy - I would love to know what else you find out about this. As I am sure everyone else would. Unfortunately, I'm sure everyone involved is under some sort of gag order.

Keep us posted!

In the Technology Forum in The Big Switch thread, Teresa posted:

Quote:The last that my owner has shared with me from his conversation with helios yesterday were:
1. Tony still works for helios
2. We are still scheduled for the last week in August
3. The address line encryption is only on the demo version
4. No dongle is going to be required for version 10

My response follows:

Thanks for the update Teresa, and I truly do wish you the very best with this implementation.

I for one am very glad to hear that Tony is still at Helios. I personally believe Helios Users will be the worst for it when/if he does depart.

V10 WAN scheduled for installation at the end of August, less than 40 days away - it has been so long coming it will be great to see the approaches and safeguards they have taken.

Remember if they miss that end of August date by a day or two - V10 was promised to be shipped Nov 9th at the 2001 Nashville show and it (to the best of my knowledge) is still not being shipped.

Address Line encryption only being in the Demo Version of V10 - I truly hope that this time, and at least on this issue, Tony is speaking from fact. Earlier in July when he said that to a number of Users, John Keffner at ETS stated on July 10th that that decision had not been made as yet. One would wonder why they put the encryption in the "DEMO" version if they did not intent on using it. This does not address the equally concerning issue of the EFT Account Number encryption which removes the ability of Users to export data from the EFT table within Helios for independant processing of EFT transactions without the involvement of ETS/Helios.

V10 - NO DONGLE - interesting. This must be a very recent change in direction. V10.0.45 starts in Demo mode saying as with V9 that the Hardware Key is not present. Earlier in July another User was told that the new "V10 Dongle" would work with both V9.4 (I assumed actually V9.4.5) and V10.

I wonder what security approach they are going to use now and if it will afford the same convenience to the User that the dongle did for reinstalling software without the involvement of Helios Tech Support and allowing for the convenient use of a copy of the software (in demo mode) for reporting on a home or office computer.

Thanks again for the update Teresa.

Well despite some comments to the contrary, I am still hearing that Tony is no longer or shortly will no longer be with ETS/Helios.

The latest info that I have been told is that ETS required Tony to move to Indy (makes sense I guess) and that this move had to take place by around this time, but for personal reasons Tony is not able to relocate.

Would have thought that would have been resolved when the sale to ETS was finalized, but who know.

Just the latest in the ongoing story ..... wonder how this, if true, will impact Helios V10 and Helios WAN.

It is now over a month since the Vegas Show and still no V10.

Christine, from what I hear you may need to try and reach him in Chicago.

My understanding being that he has not been in the office since shortly after a VERY unpleasant BLOWUP in public view (well public to other ETS/Helios staff members) between Tony and Bill Pipp.

I further understand that the issue causing the BLOWUP was the use of Encryption within the Helios V10 Database, apparently it was a HUMDDINGER. Not sure who was on which side of the issue, but my gut tells me Tony would NOT be in favour of encrypting at least the Address Line .... the saga continues
