Do you keep your prices posted where anyone can walk in and see them? Do you require your employees to memorize your prices and recite them to customers that come in? Do you have your prices on printed materials that customers can take with them?

There are pro's and con's to all of these ideas. I don't like having prices posted where customers can see them when they walk in. I prefer to take the time to go over the tanner's needs and then give them prices on packages that would suit their purposes. I also don't like having prices on materials that customers can take with them. Call me a skeptic, but I would think that this would make it easier for your competitors to start a price war.

We require our employees to memorize the prices for our main packages. We do have a printed version of our price list with all packages listed. It is easily changeable. We keep it in a laminated pouch to keep it from being man-handled.

We have ours on printed menus because we offer nail, pedicure and waxing services in addition to tanning. There is a lot of information on our menus but we are still required to know our units and comparative pricing. Most of us don't read from the menu as we're discussing options, but instead talk with the client and refer to the price menu on occasion.

I have mine printed on board when you walk to the counter.
I dont like to surprise my customers later.
Let them know up front, that way it doesnt look like you are hiding them, and for the competition so what if they see them ?
My clients will tan with me and their clients will come to me sooner or later.

I keep a stack of flyers, if you will, on my counter. They are free for the taking. They have all my information on them.

I am like Key, my clients will tan with me and theirs will sooner or later.

Just got a new one this am, she said wow you are double in the prices. But she has decided to purchase my 6 month club. One reason, because I am open year around at 8am at the latest. Her former salon/video store has started opening at 11am. To late for her to tan there. I will most likely get referrals from this new gal and will keep her as a long term client. Oh and she is a year around tanner! Which means the 6 months will turn into 12 months and more lotion sales

Some cities require you to post all prices for hair and tanning clearly on a sign for all to see. Its the law.
