I have had quite a few inquiries about how long after you tan should you shower. And why is it that you have to wait at all, what is the reasoning behind this???
Thanks
Christina

I will only wait if I am using a bronzer.
other wise, I like to shower right after i tan. But dont forget after you shower to mosturize.

If you tan in a tanning booth you don't get sweaty and dirty so there is no need to shower.

I can see how after using a tanning bed you would have to shower, i always did.

Tanning happenes from the inside out so showering has no effect on tanning.
its does dry the ski out though.

showering does dry out the skin and washes off old tanned cells, dry skin does not show up a tan well, it also washes off the lotion that is moisturizing and providing your skin with tanning noutrients
and antioxidents.

why would you want to wash off the tanning lotion you just put on?

We did an article on myths in tanning a while ago, and this one came up from several sources. Although the reasoning behind "don't shower for four to eight hours after tanning" ranges from not disturbing the production of melanin to letting the tan "set," there isn't any real reason a client can't shower immediately after a tanning session. Tanning occurs below the surface of the skin and gradually sloughs off as part of the body's natural cell-renewal process.

There are two possible exceptions:
1) If your client has used a bronzer or self-tanner, they'll want to wait so they don't wash off the cosmetic effects (which are NOT the same as a true melanin tan).
2) If your client has used a tingle lotion, he/she may want to wait a while or use cool water during the shower. We have heard that tingle lotions may become a little too intense when combined with hot water, because of increased blood circulation.

Hope this helps!

You still get the tanning stink after you use a booth, some lotions are pretty smelly when they heat up. Why would you want to smell like that all day. And anyways after standing in a booth wouldnt you like to lay down in a bath? ( lay down is the key word )

After a long day at the beach, oily, greasy, tanned skin, sand EVERYWHERE!!!, sweaty feeling gettin into the 1000 degree car, that was baking ALL DAY in the sun, you Have to shower lol, and I always get darker in the summer, with the sun, even though I shower right after the beach all the time.

Personally, I believe that showering right after tanning won't do anything to the tanning process, but your skin WILL loose moisture, so just be sure to moisturize with you favorite lotion!

hope to help

I hate to say this and tried not to but,...

IF you have a bad smell after tanning you are not a clean person!

If you shower every day and scrub the dead skin cells off when you shower or bath there is nothing to make you smell after tanning,,,,,,,any "smell" you have during or after tanning is caused from old dead skinn cells and bacteria !

There is nothing in the tanning process that makes you stink unless you have bacteria and dead skin cells or plain BO, which is bacteria as well.
That is the ONLY time you will stink "the sour vomit smell" during tanning!

If you have the "tanning stink" you need a loofa and a good wash with dial antibacterial soap!
In the 20 years our salon there has been 3-4 tanners ever stink you can tell its stink foot or body odour of dirty people and the effect of heat on any scent.
it is not a tanning smell!

If lotions leave a after smell, you need to buy better lotion or the lotion is old and has bacteria in it as well.

Now I don't need to go into more detail.... I hope!

From someone that never smell after tanning!

NOW STOP IT I AM GOING TO BARF!
