Rep Power: 0 | My main question concerning this topic is when i should exfolliate. Im not to brought up on the subject but does this help the tanning process any? As im assuming it gets rid of dead skin allowing for the new skin to absorb "cleaner" uv's. Im not sure...I just do not want my tan to fad. I have leanred that shwering alot...shaving etc causes the tan to fade and i like being really dark.. Any suggestions on how to keep the tan very dark while doing all this stuff to your skin..shaving..showering..exfolliating.. ..etc. Thanks (newbie here) |

Rep Power: 23 | Please do NOT exfoliate before tanning..... This "rubs off" dead skin cells, and irritates the skin... it can and probably will make your skin more susceptable to burning. There is a lot of talk going on about exfolients and it seems that nobody knows whats going to happen in the long run.... be careful, and dont exfoliate before tanning...make sure to MOISTURIZE.... |

Rep Power: 28 | I am not aware of exfoliating before tanning will make you burn or more sensitive. Exfoliating the dead skin off will make you achieve a better tan. I try to exfoliate once a week with JA Saltglow. It really depends on your skin. I am a dry type, so if you are oily you may not need to exfo. as often as I do. Chris is a skin care professional, let's have her come on and address this. |

Rep Power: 24 | Exfoliating is a necessary part of maintaining supple, soft, beautiful skin.. You have asked a very important question and I am happy to help you with an answer.. Meltabutter.. you are wrong.. sorry buddy but exfoliating is important..not harmful.. You should use an exfoliant at least every 10 days.. (Look for a rice based one or a salt glow product encapsulated in a gel base) Even baking soda with warm water to make a paste for the entire body is awesome.. and pure.. not abrasive.. Snakes shed their skin once a month...look at how beautiful and vibrant their colors are after the skin is shed.. We are not like snakes.. We NEED to help our skin shed. Only if you use an exfoliant with an AHA Alpha Hydroxy.. or a Glycolic acid will you be sensitive to ultra-violet. Using products that are low in abraison and have a rounded grain will ensure you maintain beautiful color.. Don't think of it as loosing your color..you are loosing icky flakes that dull your skins beauty and prevent your skin from attracting necessary moisture, this will make the tan uneven, patchy and look harsh and unattractive. Use a soft soap when showering such as Summer Sunbathe by Caltan. it also has vitatan that helps promote a deep tan. Using a hard soap in your shower leaves the skins surface with a film.. it doesn't rinse off well, which leaves the skin a bit on the dry side.. Skin will look dull and patchy. Moisturizing the skin am and pm will help the surface remain glowing and soft to the touch. Try the Caltan Total Immersion or Matahari Luminous.(has a firming action if you need a bit of a lift). Using exfoliants close in nature like Volcanic tanning mudd by Caltan will help the exfoliation proceess occure everytime you tan without the effort of scrubbing. Look Good Feel Good...Have a BEAUTIFUL TAN.. When you shave your legs you are exfoliating.. legs are harder to get the color because of shaving, wearing jeans rubbing of hose or clothes.. Try using Catans Tan and Tone Legs and make it aprt of your tanning process.. You will Look and Feel your best..when you shed the unwanted cells. Rep Power: 23 | Sorry bout the wrong information, but my moms friend is an Aesthetician, and she told me never to exfoliate before I tan, or go in the sun. I didn't mean that exfoliating was bad for you, just that it wasn't good to do it before you tan. |

Rep Power: 23 | It must be true about not exfoliating before tanning. I am always tanned and never burn and I actually did burn after exfoliating. I was tanning in the same capsule for the same period of time as I always do. I would think it would have been wise to just go for a shorter tan. Maybe I scrubbed too hard and took off my base. I still believe exfoliating is important, especially to get rid of bronzer build-up! |

Rep Power: 24 | Remember.. Use an exfoliant that is non abrasive, rounded in grain. Certain scrubs that contain sharp edged substances such as a ground up apricot or pumpkin can scrape the skin leaving it extreamly sensitive. Using a buff puff on the skin with also scratch the surface of our skin leaving it overly tender to ultra-violet, wind, and topical lotions containing an alcohol product. Be wise when exfoliating.. Be good to your skin.. It is the largest organ on the human body.. It needs to be care for.. Chris |
