Rep Power: 0 | I have been taking Mircette, which is a contraceptive. I started taking it in October and then in January I began breaking out with these itchy bumps. I am a salon owner, so I did the checklist by going over everything and anything that may have caused this reaction. This is the only thing that I can come up with. When I skip a day or two of taking it, I don't have as bad of a reaction after tanning. I have taken other contraceptives before and have never had a reaction. I don't have health insurance for myself, so I am trying to figure this out on my own before going to the doc. I am, however, going to call them and see about atleast changing the script. I love my tanning, and I refuse to give it up unless I absolutely have to. |

Rep Power: 23 | RJ - I've never used Mircette. Is it oral? I had a reaction to just about everything the doctor put me on. I am now on the lowest possible dosage which is Loestrin and I don't have any sensitivity problems whatsoever. You stated that you were on this for a few months before having problems. Was there anything else that may have changed that could be causing the problem? Did you change skin care products? Any other medications? |

Rep Power: 24 | Good Q's tangirl. I understand your question and scenario a little better now. Hmmmm... that's a good one. You can check also with a Pharmacist at no cost... they have detailed books which outline every possible side effect a medication may have. My mom worked in a pharmacy while I was growing up and out of habit I learned to always ask "What are the side effects of this drug" to the doctor. Then I would repeat the question with the Pharmacist. If they didn't offer a good response I'd ask for information on the medication. I have learned to always mention to a dr. that I tan indoor.... like you, I'm not about to give it up now. |

Rep Power: 24 | If you have been on the Mircette for three months and no reaction to tanning before, then there is no connection to the two. I just asked Doc about it. (you should go see your doctor though if it persists). Mircette is not known to cause a reation to uv. Check your soaps, washing powders, perfumes, body lotions.. start backtracking to the time you became sensitive. Christine' |

Rep Power: 0 | Mircette does have ethinyl estradiol in it which is a photosensitive med. Talked to doc and she doesn't think it would be the mircette, although it can cause a reaction while tanning. I did think that it was odd that there was no reaction for the first 2 months, but like I have said, I have been through everything that I could think that it would have been. I have also taken Loestrin and also Nordette with no problems at all. I have found however, that it is so much easier to try to help a client figure this out than to try to figure it out for yourself. LOL! Okay, so, I will recap and if I figure it out, I'll let ya know. Thanks so much for your insight. |
