Rep Power: 23 | Has anyone ever heard of this? We had a newbie come in this morning. When we asked her if she had eye protection she said that she wears Accuvue UV contacts that she does not need eyewear. When we told her that we had never heard of these, she said that her doctor told her that they were safe for tanning bed use. Does anyone have any information about these? I just don't see how contacts can protect you as much as goggles, no rays, wink ease, etc. |

Rep Power: 23 | I think your "newbie" is misunderstanding what her doctor is telling her. By saying that her acuvue is "safe" the doc means that she does not need to remove them before tanning. But "safe" does not mean she does not need to wear eye protection. She still does. I would still insist on maintaining the eye protection policy (and laws in your state). If she gives you trouble, ask for a note from her doctor or simply tell her what the law is. The law is the law. |

Rep Power: 23 | Ok. I did a little research in case anyone wanted to know more about these lenses. It is recommended that you continue to use goggles and protective eyewear. http://www.jnjvision.com/products/uv_disclaimer.html I hope this helps. |

Rep Power: 0 | That client is just plain "Dumb cubed". Here is what my doctor told me about them: You may continue to wear them while in the tanning bed, however be aware they are not likely to provide 100% protection from harmful light indoors or out. You should continue wearing protective sunglasses while outdoors to reduce eye strain, and indoors while tanning you should wear UV protective eyewear approved by the FDA. (my name), remember that you must cover the whole eye, not just the pupil, because (the c word) doesn't care which portion of your eye you left unprotected - just that it was left unprotected. |

Rep Power: 23 | Biz - I don't think this client was dumb. I just think that she misunderstood what her doctor told her or she was misinformed. Too many doctors these days do not take the time to explain things completely to people. |
