I do know that tanning does several things for you... especially seasonally that nothing else seems to do. There is a disorder known as SAD that occurs in the winter due to the lack of sunlight absorbed by the skin. Because we cover up so much and spend an enormous amount of time indoors, indoor tanning can combat SAD and elevate endorphin levels. People who feel sluggish, depressed and gain weight can benefit immensely from indoor tanning, especially in the winter time. That's why a healthy tan always makes people "feel" so much better. I also know first hand that indoor tanning can aid in reducing several skin conditions. I started using tanning to aid in my acne, on the advice of my family doctor. It has worked wonders. A physican should always be consulted in this manner.Another benefit is increased metabolism. People who are struggling to lose weight, watching their diet and exercising can benefit from indoor tanning as well. The metabolism is increased, boosting one's energy level and ability to consume calories at a higher rate. While I wouldn't advocate indoor tanning in place of proper diet control and exercise... the combination can be quite effective. I once lost 70 pounds this way! Then there is the aesthetic benefit. People who tan generally feel better about their appearance, self image and self confidence. They are people who exude confidence and assurity. Anyone who feels unattractive would greatly benefit from some tanning to boost their own moral about how they see themselves. This is cyclical and will encourage people to care for themselves in other ways as well.... such as greater skin care awareness, better health related habits, etc.Just my 2 cents,Laurie |
