Lamp type question

If the label on the bed or the manual for the bed says it takes a specific lamp does the same lamp go all the way around in the bed?
Won't it tell us if it takes a different one in the couch compared to the canopy?
The canopy may be of different length but it would still take the same lamp unless otherwise directed on the label or the manual correct?

Re: Lamp type question

Yes. The label and the manual should indicate which lamps go in the bed. If the label and the manual only indicate one lamp then I would figure on the same lamp going in all positions.

Re: Lamp type question

Thats what I am thinking but wanted to confirm to be sure. I'm not the best yet w/ all the lamp equivalent stuff.
Wanting to replace the spectralarium vho/r+ with a midday sun but I'm sure it's the 160 watt that I need instead of the 100 or 140 with a 15 min tan time.

Re: Lamp type question

A VHO/R would mean it is a 160w or 140w Reflector lamp.

71" or 73" would be 160w
59" would be 140w

I believe the Midday Sun VHO Reflector would be a good choice.

Re: Lamp type question

thinking though... why would the stronger lamps be on the bottom which is closest and the weaker on the top? I would think it would be the other way around w/ the stronger on the top beings how they are farther away from the person?

oh then it goes back to where it can be the same all the way around so do ya get a different brand for the top that makes a 160 in the 59 or what?

Is it taking away from the bed by not keeping the equivalent all the way around?

Re: Lamp type question

59" 140w and 71" 160w are the same "strength".

You need a stronger ballast to drive a longer lamp. Do you have facials lamps on the bed? If so that is why there are 59" lamps on top.

Re: Lamp type question

I know the lamps are shorter on top because of the facials........ but i don't really understand how a 140 is the same as a 160 because it's shorter?
how does length give one more or less strength?
I am definitly not a lamp expert but sure wish I was.

Re: Lamp type question

Its all about the phosphorus blend. The glass (for the most part, lets not complicate things) is the same on all lamps. Its the material that coats the glass that determines the light output, both visible and not. So its not always about wattage, length, etc.

Re: Lamp type question

It is pretty logical. A bigger ie longer bulb will take more power to drive it.

So in VHO lamps:
59" = 140w
71" = 160w
78" = 180w

or in HO lamps
59" = 80w
71" = 100w
78" = 120w

The lamps in each of these groups will have the same output if they are the same type. For example a Midday Sun VHOR 59" 140w, 71"160w and a 78" (2M) 180w" would all have basically the same output.

For example if your bed is a 40/3 with 20 59" lamps on top with 3 400w facials and 20 71" lamps on the bottom. All the lamps are Midday Sun VHOR's. The total strength of the top would be 4,000watts and the total strength on the bottem would be 3,200watts.
