I have a bed that needs to run on a 20 amp outlet. The place im renting has 15 amp outlets in both bedrooms, but 20 amp in the bathroom. Just wondering if it's safe to use an extension cord to reach the outlet in the bathroom....?

Re: Extension Cord
I would not recommend it. First you would need an extension cored to handle the amperage, this is not a typical extension cord but of course they are out there, you just don't want to use any extension cored you have laying around.
But then you have the voltage drop issue, if you go to far you lose amperage or voltage, I forget. Either way the longer the cord the less performance. And is the bed 120V or 220V?

Re: Extension Cord
A 12 would be ok for 20 amps, but no less. Some know this and some not, but the lower the gauge number the thicker the wire. So a 12/10/8 etc will handle 20 amps but a 14 will only take 15 amps.

Re: Extension Cord
a 12 guage cord will work but i would run me a 12/2 wire all the way from the breaker box and add yourself a new outlet and a new breaker for the bed.
