Re: Frosted Acrylics
so is this myth busted or confirmed......i dont think thats a big loss! id like to put frosted in my level 1 beds to make them look a little sharper, but im always worried about the loss of UV. i dont want to make them level 0....ya know.

Re: Frosted Acrylics
Are you sure you tested the lamps while the bed was running?! That's a pretty low reading! Maybe your lamps are dead?

Re: Frosted Acrylics
You will get anywhere from 20% to 30% reduction in total UV output according to what I have read about frosted acrylics. The meter you have is either a UVB meter (most likely) or a broad spectrum meter (UVA + UVB). Most of the UV loss from frosted acrylics is in the UVA bandwidth. In order to measure UVA, you need to take a broad spectrum meter and a UVB meter and take the difference of the two readings.

Re: Frosted Acrylics
boy i'm confused... lol the lamps that I tested were New Technology 160W, they had had run as of yet this morning. The meter is a Solar Meter UVA+B. The lamps only have around 500 hours on them, guess I shouldn't say only... but we change at around 700-800.

Actually it'd be the opposite. The shorter wave lengths are what are being blocked. The shorter waves don't make it through but the longer waves do. |
