Question what's the best bed for me

first off Im not in the tanning business but i do want to get a tan. Im VERY fair skinned and burn quickly and easily and there are SO many different beds out there to choose from and I am clueless. Whenever I go to a tanning salon they tell me certain beds would be the best for me and somehow they end up being the most expensive they have and i get fried everytime. Im tired of getting burned (literally and figuratively) because Im new to the whole tanning experience and the salons know they can get the most money out of me. I have heard from other people that the "bronzing" beds would be the best for me to get a base tan but then I hear that it's not. So what's the best kind of bed for someone like me to get a good base tan and how long should I stay in. Also what kind of lotion should I use. There again I somehow end up walking away with some of the most expensive they carry. Any input would be appreciated. TY

Re: what's the best bed for me

my wife runs our salon in miami.
she starts every new person for 8-10 minutes in the 20 minute bed
then 10 the next time .
you might not see a difference but your establishing a base tan .
after that try the full amount of time on the 20 minute bed
do not use tingle the first 4 or 5 times at least ( but do use lotion)

Re: what's the best bed for me

Just ask the salon you are going to, for the bed with the LOWEST UVB without it being a High Pressure Bed (the beds with the square purple lights that usually look likes spaceships, lol) and usually that bed is around 10-15 minutes max. But ask for that bed (depending on your budget) and tan in it for 6-7 minutes. Then if you dont burn or even get pink, bump it up one minute every time you go, unless you burn or get pink.
**The reason for tanning in the bed with the LOWEST UVB, is that there are 2 types of UV rays emmitted from the tanning bulbs. UVA and UVB. In laymans terms, the more UVA rays there are, the more browning color you will get. The more UVB rays there are, the more reddening color you will get.
The usual base bed will be around 5-7% UVB rays.
Just ask for the bed with the lowest UVB, and tan in it for 6-7 minutes.

Your salon should also be giving you a skin type analysis before anything happens.
