Lamp Change?

Alright, I have a 2001 Sunvision Pro 28LE.. It does have the 2 High Pressure Facials..I have driven this thing to the max for 5 years now, it is definitely time for a lamp change. It have 920 hours on the lamps. It currently has Wolff System Velocity Plus lamps in it.. They are 100 Watts. I am italian, so I dont need a lot of burning rays to get black, Im pretty black now, so Im looking for a more "bronzy" lamp..What should I put into this bed? Where should I get them? I want a good quality lamp, ETS wants $19 a lamp, I was thinking more like $12.50 or $13.00 a lamp..(I have to go 30 minutes under these lamps in order to stay extremely dark, they are supposed to be 20 minute lamps, but they don't seem to do the job). Also, I know it will use Heraeus lamps for the facials (Since they are high pressure all they are is UVA), I just need to know the low pressure lamp to get (tubes).. I don't think I need any new starters or ballasts, the lamps seem to light up relatively quick and they all light up

Re: Lamp Change?

i would buy cosmolux , 100w VLR 9k90 low uvb lots of A, you should never need to replace a ballast unless it fails completely, starters you should consider they cost less than a buck a piece and they will throw it on the same shipping ticket, because you will be ****** if a lamp goes out because of a starter and you have to pay 3 bucks to ship a 75cent starter and they dont sell those starters at home depot

Re: Lamp Change?

This is in your house right?
920 hours at a salon. No way.
No Dist. is going to sell you lamps.
USE ETS.

WAIT !!! I WILL HELP YOU.

Call up ANY GOOD Tanning salon and grab their old bulbs for free !!!
Just take one of yours there and match it up.
Maybe, You can offer them a buck or two each if you had to.
You would get a good 400 to 500 hours on them for you to use.

Re: Lamp Change?

Actually not a bad idea!

Go to the nicest local salon. Ask to speak to the owner. Explain that you have a bed at home, need to re-lamp, and would like to buy some of their used lamps. See if any will match.

Oh - and to create some "goodwill" with this owner -- buy a bottle of lotion from them too. You want them to do you a favor and save you hundreds of dollars - a small lotion purchase and a few bucks for their lamps is a great alternative!

Re: Lamp Change?

Don't buy used lamps and don't pay $19.00 for a 100W lamp. Don't use VLR's, they aren't right for that bed and they aren't right for your skin type. The best tanning lamp, like a Light Sources or Philips lamp, should cost $11.00 - $12.00.

Ditsys will sell lamps to you, even if you are not a salon owner. Call around for the best prices.

Re: Lamp Change?

I'd put Velocity Extremes in there. That is a 15 minute lamp and you have a 20 minute bed. That would extend the life of your lamp and you would not need to lay as long. The bed was originally manufactured with Velocity. The Velocity Extremes have more UVB which will give you more instant reddening but still have a high level of UVA (bronzing ray). Most less expensive lamps are, mostly UVB and do not have much UVA (bronzing ray). You really need both rays for a good tan. That is why the Velocity family of lamps are so good. They have a strong mix of both!

Re: Lamp Change?

Thanks! Ed, can I call you for some lamps..I was thinking along the lines of a Light Source MidDay Sun 5.0%? They seemed like pretty good lamps online, the morning sun 2.3% looks good also, but I know I will have to hike my session up to 30 minutes at least everytime, wouldnt it give me a REALLY dark tan though?

Re: Lamp Change?

Go with the midday sun or the philips advantage as they are similar in tanning time. Both are around the 18-20 min time.. You can also go with the philips Swift HP lamp and they can be had for 13.00 or less. No reason to pay 19.00 that is way high for a 100W non reflector. The hp type of lamps have lots of UVA for browning. The philips HP lamp also has some bite.
