2 Lamps have gone out together?

Hello,

I have a Super Sundash 40 that I bought a few weeks ago with brand new lamps installed. Two lamps next to each other have gone out that are fed by the same ballast. Before I take off the acrylic from the canopy I did some easier tests.

I slid out the ballast tray with the 10 ballasts on it and unpluged the molex plug at ballast 9 & 10 and swapped them around and that showed the both ballasts where working.

Next I ohmed out each wire from ballast #10 molex plug to the cannon conector and getting good connection. The only thing I didn't ohm out yet is the other end of the cannon connector up to the lamp holders.

Last thing I'm going to do is remove the acrylic and swap out both bulds to another location. I just didn't want to have to remove the acrylic twice, once to try the last step and then again when the new lamps come in.

Any quesses what it might be?

I'm guessing both lamps went out together and the rest of the wiring is ok. But do you think it is just coincidental 2 lamps that are run from the same ballast?
Furthermore, could the ballast be taking the lamps out? I would hate to put in 2 more lamps and they get taken out again bt a faulty ballast.

What do you all think?

Thanks,

JW

One bad lamp. When you change it out, they both will work

Re: 2 Lamps have gone out together?

Wow that was a fast response from Billable, thanks.

So I'm assuming each pair are wired in series similar to a string of christmas lights, one out all the rest out?

Now I hope I don't have to buy a full box of lamps just to replace the one bad one, I have this bed in my house so the lamps are probably going to last me several years.

Thanks.

Nice bed for a home unit.

Move one of the lamps and see if the problem moves with it. If not, move the other one. If it does, there is the bad lamp. If it doesn't, you have another problem. Easier than ohming out wires and testing ballasts. The acrylic is a pain though like you said.

Well I'll just have to bite the bullet and remove the acrylic to finish off the troubleshooting. Hope that's all it is.

Thanks.

Re: 2 Lamps have gone out together?

I have had a similiar problem but what I found after I switched the ballast, lamps, and lampholders was on wire in the square connection where your ballast are had pulled out and was hidden in the clump of wires. Make sure you aren't missing a wire at the connection or also make sure they are pushed in all the way.

My guess is that you have one bad lamp causing both not to work. That is usually the first place to start. The acrylic is a pain to take out but I would check that first. Good Luck
