Is there more burning potential in a Matrix L33 than a Sunboard XTT?

I'm fair skinned, burn somewhat easily but eventually tan, and haven't been in the sun for a while, so my local(excellent) salon owner & I decided to start with 8 min on the Sunboard. That went perfectly- got tons of color (for me), and didn't even get pink. 48 hrs later we decided to try 10 min in the Matrix. It's now 6 hours later, and my back & torso are the old familiar lobster red. I don't at all think she gave me bad advice, just wondering what you experts think the most likely problem was:

1) Upping the minutes too fast
2) 48 hrs was too soon
3) The Matrix is more powerful/has more burning potential
4) Something else

Thanks!
Valerie

I believe the lamp strength on the Matrix L33 must be much higher than the current lamp strength on the Sun Board. 48 hours was too soon, regardless. Once a good tan is achieved, once every 7-10 days I believe is the prescribed exposure advice. (That guess may be off a little) The number of minutes advized should be based on current lamp strength, the customers' current tan base, and the customers' skin type. I think the lamps on the Matrix are probably newer, and you went too long. Hope this helps. Good luck.

The term "stronger" is bantered about alot...customers come in all the time, & ask which is the srongest bed...by definition, the bed that has the great wattage is the strongest, which generally will be a High pressure bed.....but...because they are always much lower in UVB, the generally are "gentler " on the skin.
But you are right Valerie...not all high pressures are created equal...the percentage of UVB between the Sunboard & the matrix are different..so therefore even though the wattage may be the same...the degree of "burn" is different.
I may not be a technician..but hopefully added to the info above...this will help.

I was under the impression that the Matrix has a higher UVB than most HP beds, somewhere around 2% rather than the norm of .6 to 1.5 plus it is a higher wattage bed than the sun board. In my opinion those sunboards are at the bottom of the barrel as far as HP beds go.

Comeing in after 48hrs is only to soon if you were overexposed on the first session. When starting out in a HP bed you normaly need 3 or 4 sessions to get a base and then a sess. every 10-14 days to keep your color.

Yea, that first session prob. got your skin a little sensitive and most likely the Sunboards lamps had more hours on them than the Matrix.(prob. were changed recently) I mean 48 hours between sessions with high pressure ,especially being conservative w / minutes shouldn't cause a burn......a burn that is seen / felt 6 hours later. Maybe photo sensitive meds. ?

Thanks, all. So, if I want to establish a base tan on HPs, how far apart should I space the first 3-5 sessions (assuming I don't show any signs of overexposure?)

Thanks,
valerie
