Hi All,
Could someone give me a quick run down on starters? 1. Does the starter have to be rated the same as the bulb? i.e 200w bulb/200w starter. The reason for my question (and the fact that this is all new to me) I have a 2 year old Cyclone and Suncapsule, I seem to be going through bulbs rather quickly (about 350-400 hours) and I wondering if the unit has the correct starters in it or if I should replace them with a new/different one. Thanks for your time.......... |

What lamp and what starter is in the unit now. some lamps do not work well with elecrtonic starters. also many people use the s-12 with 1650-200 watt lamps but the starter is only rated at 140 watts. there is a cleo power that will actually handle up to 260 watts although it is only rated at 180w

350-400hrs is not rather quickly. It's rather common. You can TRY electric starters (all 160watt+ should be using them anyway IMO) and HEAVY air conditioning. Also I'm assuming you are using Cosmedico. If not them 350-400hrs is actually pretty good.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me. I should have put a little more info. The booths are running cosmedico 200w bulbs and 140w(rated) phillips starters. They both have buck boosters and the bulbs are turning black at the ends around the 250 hour mark. Plenty o' air conditioning in my salon so no problem there.
After doing some research yesterday, I am leaning towards the starters being the problem, but would like some feedback from you guys (Engfant hint hint)on what too do. Thanks again for your time............. |

The S12 should not be used in that unit. The Philips S12 is rated for 6000 cycles @ 140W. So if you are overpowering it, like that unit does, it will drastically decrease the life of that starter.
I would definitely try using a Philips Cleo Power or an Electronic starter. You will have less end darkening, faster starts & less lamp failures. |
