I just replaced a facial lamp for the first time. Washed it with isopropyl alcohol and did not touch it with fingers. Felt like I placed it in the correct position ( it readily rotated when turned) but... it is not coming on. Is there a particular direction the bulb needs to be positioned before it will operate?

Was the old one working before you replaced it?

Yes, the old one was working. Yesterday, I went to turn the bed on and the new lamp came on. I guess these facial lamps are fickle.

might be the safety switch on the glass. sometimes if the glas is not in the same position the safety will not let the lamp come on.

Also an old or weak ignitor may be to blame. An old lamp will light easily with a worn ignitor. New lamps may be harder to ignite!

It is very, very rare to have a defective HP lamp!

Yea, I've noticed that at times. Do you happen to know why an old ignitor can have more of a problem with a new hp lamp than an old one?

How frequently does an igniter need to be replaced? The TanAmerica 32 vho bed is only 1 year old with about 600 hours on it. I don't want to wait for it to act up. I believe in preventive maintenance.

Some times they last forever. If you have an HP lamp that won't light always try it in another socket before replacing the lamp!

John, do you know why a weak ignitor sometimes lights an old hp lamp but has a harder time with a new one?

Is this something that you have been told, or just that you have seen?

I have noticed this, but I could also swear that sometimes an old ignitor with an old lamp won't work, while the same ignitor with a new lamp will work?

Do you have, or does anyone have an explanation?
