Now that the electronic starters have been in the field for sometime now, I would like opions on them, good bad etc. Or just salon owners personal results or comments.

Real nice. No more flickering of the bulbs. They are supposed to help with lamp end darkening but I think that's mostly 100w apps. 160w seem to darken due to the aggressiveness of the bulb not the starter. I use the CosmedicoE starters. Just the fact that I don't have to worry about changing them anytime soon is worth it.

engfant,

What type of beds do you have, that you are still seeing end-darkening?

In my Ovation 154/3 (what do you think of the bed?) they are darkening real fast but I feel that this is due to the extreme heat produced by the bed. The previous owners never bothered to put ac in the room so it heats up real hot. I'm doing my best with fans until I get the ac guy to add to the room. VHRTTs too. They definately look like "stress" marks as only some bulbs have it. I just replaced my bulbs in my Sundazzler with VHRs and electric starters. Waiting to see how long before the ends blacken. The starters make the blubs all light up at the same time which is kinda cool looking.

I think that you may be right on the Heat problem. I have heard of other salon owners with Heartland equipment report the same. Also in the Tanses 32 VHO-R they get black, but the Tanses 52, there is no problem?

Well, if it doesn't stop after adding the ac I may have to swap it out for another 12min Sunsorce with some frosty acryllics. I love those things.

I ordered some and installed them and only about half worked, I had to switch back to old style and send the others back. I must've just gotten a bad batch.

There are some beds that use 140 watt ballasts to light 160 watt lamps. Also some that use a lead-lead-lag ballast system that require longer preheat electronic starters. Also when the early philips 140/160 watt lamps are used in standard systems the preheat time needs to be longer,so the standard electronic starters do not work well.Over powered systems (giant sun) wlii instant start the lamp in the top and will actually shorten the lamp life.
