I believe the advertisement says AVERAGE times of 5-6 minutes, BUT the Maximum time is stil 9 minutes like the Starship. The wattage is going UP and that should increase the lamp output significantly, but with the lamp failure issues Cosmedico has had, I don't know how well this new booth will perform. They have got to produce a lamp that can take the HEAT!!

I heard someone mention that the body tans more efficiently once it's heats up and the heart rate has increased. Until that point the tanning process is not very efficient.
If it takes 3-4 minutes to hit that point then you are not getting much in 5-6 minutes. Anyone know if there is truth to this? |

Chunn, I don't think this is exactly correct. The important thing that improves tanability, is metabolism and blood flow. A massage or moderate exercise just prior to tanning will increase the effectiveness of the tanning process. This brings the blood supply near the surface of the skin. This is one of the purported improvements of tanning with a HOT ACTION lotion. The ingredients stimulate the blood flow and bring it to the surface, thus the RED appearance in the skin. While getting HOT during a tanning session might have a similar effect, I'd rather not have my clients frying in heat to improve their tan. Remember, if the tanner is hot, so are the lamps and their UV output WILL suffer as a result. End result, they are NOT giving their best performance for the customer.

Is a 220 watt tanning lamp going to give you that much more performance compared to current 200 watt lamps ? Sure, they consume more energy but, do they have that much more output. A 160 watt lamp consumes 60% more energy than a 100 watt lamp but only has 30% more output. I,m not saying they won't tan you but,can you justify the cost involved with the initial price of the lamps? The potential high maintenence and extra cooling requirements? Can you get a lamp like that close enough to the acrylic and to your body without warping the acrylic because of the extra radiant heat? If you have to limit acrylic / lamp proximity will it still out perform a 200 watt or even a160 watt lamp? The only reason I ask that is because I see many 200 watt systems with warped and discolored acrylics early in their life and that makes me wonder if the 220 watt systems might necessitate even closer acrylic replacement intervals. And just in case you're wondering the units in mention are being cooled sufficiantly. Just a thought.

I believe this is a 2 meter lamp (78 inches) If you are say 5 foot 4 I dont think the extra length = extra power is going to help you. If you are 6 foot 4 like me I can tan my feet and bald spot. However heat is heat and 220W is a lot of heat. You will have the same heat issues you have with the 200W lamps.

I don't know how many vendors are offering the 220W system now, but the one I'm familiar with is the SunCapsule. It doesn't have acrylics, so there will be NO acrylic issues due to heat to worry about. The extra heat is quite another issue. They have an awesome fan that moves a lot of air through the booth, but you better have more than adequate HVAC in the salon to keep with the air being pulled through the booth and out of the salon, so the tanner can still feel 'cool' during the session.

The lamp in question is a 1.9 meter lamp or about 75".
The lamp replacement will be very limited & cost will most likely be around $25.00 each. Life will most likely be similar to that of the 200 lamp. about 300-350 hrs. |

I just got the newest Sun Capsule Lamps for Life For Less mailer today. Under their current offer you can get the 220 Watt lamps for $14.95 and that price is locked in for as long as you own the unit. Sounds like a great deal to me.
