I have a 15 year old 100 watt bed that has never had a starter changeout. It is in a busy health club and used everyday. I meter the lamps and they do not burn out faster than lamps in my other beds. But hey, I sell electronic starters for $4.75 (CANADIAN !!!) so PLEASE cange your starters every lamp change!!!!

Starters don't realy take a beating in 100 watt beds. They will last for years. When used in 160 watt and up they don't last as long and would recommend at least every 4th or 5th lamp change. You will notice a struggle to start the lamps after awhile with the higher wattage units. The electronic version would eliminate the need to change them.[ This Message was edited by: Brian Oshman on 2002-10-30 10:02 ]

TENTEN, I talked to Terri today, very helpful and gave me 2 Salon owners to call, who gave testimonials based on these new electronic starters. They both had good insights based on their results. Couldn't pass up the bargin price compared to regular price. Placed my order to put starters in my SunCapsule and other 10 minute VHR beds. I don't think the 100W beds warrant the expense of these starters from the discussion I've been seeing on the subject. Now if the price on them falls to the $1.75 range.......maybe.

Just got these starters installed in my SunCapsule last night. Will monitor the results over time. I took a look at one of the Philips S-12 starters that was removed to see if its condition could be assessed. It looks like a small vacuum tube with 'getter' splattered all over the inside. Don't know how to evaluate it just yet. I'll investigate further.

to check the s-12 look at the contacts in the "bulb" and you can use a meter to check the capacitor. As for the electronic starters. We have had some of ours in industrial applications that date back to the early 80's.
