LOL Don, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sam and Russ are beautiful people. Vicki and I saw that before anyone else snagged these great guys

Let's face it, Sam, neither you or Russ Keller are going to Hollywood and yet both of you have (somehow) married beautiful women. All I can say is that you and Russ must have married them when they were too young to know that there are handsome devils (like me) out there in the world. OOOPs, I goofed. I went back and looked at the technical specification sheets I got on the Philips lamps while at the Vegas show. In my last post, I was thinking about the SWIFT lamp instead of the ADVANTAGE lamp. If what I understand now is correct, the ADVANTAGE lamp should be pretty much exactly like the Black Sun in UVB output. Aren't both of them in the 5.5 range?? I was originally thinking of the Swift which is in the 3.3 range.
Sam, would you mind sending me your other thoughts and impressions about your session under the Advantage lamps, to my email address?? |

For the record, Sam and Vicki are great people. We truly enjoyed our day with them Sunday.
Sam and Vicki kept their comments regarding the phillips advantage to themselves. I appreciate the business ethics they are showing. No pressure or comments on the lamp comparisons were made to me. He brought his meters and I did the readings. Anytime they want to come back to my salon or home, they are very welcome. Next time it will have to any day other than a sunday to get that corona with the Chimi Changa! |

Sam,
you responded that Lampman was either saying the Philips lamp was better or as good with no facts to back it up is innaccurate. Lampman said "The advantage lamp has a little more UVA when compared to the Black Sun of similar type. Both lamps use filament guards. The advantage lamp does not run as hot (temperature). They have similar life (advantage compared to infinity series) The Black Sun is made By light sources just like most private labels. The pricing on the advantage is better. Both lamps are good products but Philips is the worlds largest lighting manufacturer and has the most advanced systems availiable.Their compatability is correct and their pricing is good." What he said was that the Philips lamp runs cooler and is similar in performance. As far as phosphor manufacturing I believe yours are Nichia as are most of the tanning lamps. As far as price, all customers are welcome to contact any Philips tanning distributor. As far as cost to produce the lamp, we are the largest lighting manufacturing company in the world, our Kansas facility alone produces 400 million lamps per year. That is a semi truck of lamps per hour 365 days per year. We are able to be very competitive by spreading the cost of manufacturing lamps over a very large quantity of lamps. I am happy to say that our lamp performed very closely to our expectations. Our question to Black Sun is how can you claim compatability to the Bel S with such a fast tanning lamp. We will be contacting lightsources about their justification for this seemingly obvious mismatch. |

Someone (I think from Phillips) asked me the UVA vs UVB percentages of the Wolff Bellarium S sunlamps.
Here it is: Bell S UVA = 95.6; UVB = 4.4 Advant UVA = 95.4%; UVB = 4.6% Infini UVA = 95.3%; UVB = 4.7% I hope everyone is aware of the fact that even though all 3 sunlamps have approximately the same spectral characteristics regarding UVA & UVB, they can perform quite differently. I have sent Mitzi one of my MED/hour meters and when she posts the results, we will have a better chance of "seeing" any difference. However, only an analysis using a spectroradiometer will be definitive. Don _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Don Smith on 2002-09-05 18:57 ] |

Hey Don - are you restless for another trip yet (with no roundabouts)? Pack up that thing 'under your bed' and head for TN. See if the model 7 and the Optronics yield similar MEDs and Te.
It will be interesting to see if lamps with such nearly identical unweighted UVA and UVB have significantly different EAS weighted outputs (or not). An IR reading at body would be of value too. But a radioshack thermometer is about all there is for that? |

Hey Don, I bet Pat would like to visit home, (TN) wouldn't she? Come on up if you want. I would love to have you visit with us. I am always telling Russ how smart you are and that I love learning from you. some one on one learning would be great!
Of course Nashville is only a couple of months away and I am only 3.5 hours from there. |

Today I tanned in the Black Sun lamps using JA Bronzer T4 on my legs and a non-tingle on the rest of me. I got some great color. I haven't tanned in several weeks so I can really tell a big diff.
I will give it a few days and use the Advantage lamps next with the same lotions. More to come... |
