you are so right the ballast and the cap.and voltages are the figureing for output. Some beds can run on more then 220 to 230.But if you only have some parts in your beds like some relay and some 3min cooldowns that can only take so much volts.I went in to a salon and the lady wanted her bulbs change and she got the solar starters and she had 160w. lamps so i checked her lamps with the UV meter. And the lamps read like 7&9 we put the solar starters in and they read 10& 12 some went up to 14.Well i was shocked.but them again she only had s-12 starters that went up to 140.I don't know but i do not stand behine anything that is not good it would make me look bad.And the solar starters are high in price.I can give you phone # people are crazy about them.I am just happy that salon owners are starting to change the starters when they change their lamps or ever other lamp change.Hey i am from johnson city tn.but i am in fl now.

TEN TEN has a point, starting a lamp badly will shorten the life of a lamp dramatically. Much more than the continual running issues. Electronic starters are nice but the cost is very high in comparison and not yet considered viable by most oems.

Can someone please tell me how if by changing a starter to a electronic starter you increase output of a lamp at that instant of time, I'm not talking about longevity of lamp life,i can't see increasing uv output by changing an old style starter with lets say 200hrs on it to an electronic starter how does that work, please give explanation of theory maybe we should ask DON.

The starter does not improve the output of the lamp.It wil help the filament last longer, help stop the flickering on start up and help prevent black ends.Onec the lamp starts the starter is no longer in the circuit, you can even remove the starter while the lamp is lit and the output will not change

TenTen, must have had too much to drink when making that post. As Lampman says, the starter doesn't affect the output of the lamp AFTER it gets turned on. On the other hand there is a move afoot toward electronic ballasts, and this is another story altogether. They can make a difference in the output of the lamp and extend lamp life as well.

Corvette, I failed to mention that the SunCapsule folks do something a bit different with their capacitor/ballast arrangement. The setup a "lead lag" arrangement which boosts the output of the circuit in your 160W booth to about 180W with 220vac coming in. If you have boosted that incoming voltage any, you have a lot more power to your lamps than you might have realized. Call the SunCapsule folks up and ask them to transition you to the 200W lamps. That's what I ended up doing and the booth is working just fine!!

sun capsule uses a leed lag ballast set up in some of their booths, basically every other ballast has a capacitor in series with the power. We have used our starters in this system with good results.

bsmart
I understand about longevity with using electronic starters but I still can't understand about how output can be affected if you were to compare a new starter of each type please explain the majic.
