I've been reading a lot lately about lamps and would like your opinion on a couple, one vs. the other. I think you probably handle both of them.
Please draw a comparison between the Cosmolux 160VHR and the LSI R+, I think it is. How do they compare in result, and price? |

Puretan uses the Spectralarium VHO-R+.
This lamp is very high in UVB and will provide a fast, redder type tan. This lamp lacks in UVA output. For more serious tanners only. The Cosmolux VHR has a moderate amount of UVB and it is loaded with UVA. This provides a fast, bronzer type tan. Over all one of the best tanning lamps on the market.Great for beginners to professional tanners. Here are some Compatible options to the Spectralarium VHO-R+: LSI Midday Sun VHO-R: is the exact same lamp as the puretan. Better Price Cosmolux VHR:will provide a better over all tan. May be slightly higher priced. Wolff Solarium XLR: will provide similar results as the VHR slightly higher price. Philips Advantage: Will be much stronger, faster, and provide a more natural looking tan. Not for beginners. Similar price to Puretan lamp. Sorry it took so long to respond, I was out of town. |

More than likely the lamp in the Dr.Kern is made by Litetech in Hungary.
You probably won't find anything compatible. IF the timer is 20 min. Try the LSI Signature Series 100w-R, Cosmolux VLR or Philips Swift. All will work great and vary in price. If the bed has a 15 min. timer Try using the LSI Midday Sun R or Philips Advantage R. They should work just fine for you.If you want something even stronger Cosmedico makes the ESP/R which is really strong. |

John, I spoke with someone at URI yesterday and they pointed me to the Signature Series+ as a compatible for the Cosmolux 160W VHRTT. I have decided to go with that lamp in these two 10 minute beds. I'm still waiting for replacement lamps from Dr. Kern. IF they don't come thru soon I'll be calling for an equivalent from URI.

John is correct in all he says. Pardon a little elaboration from someone who has used most of these lamps. The Light Sources Signature Series VHO/R has more UVB than the Cosmolux. Not a lot more but enough to make a difference. I haven't tried their Plus nor the Cosmedico TT because IMHO, you are tiliting the tan away from brown to red at the same time exposure. I use the Signature Series 100/R with great effect in a 15 minute bed. Might be a bit much in your 20 minute Blue Dream (why, oh why did Dr. Kern make this a 20 minute session for the American market?). LS 5.0 reflectors also kick hard at 20 minutes. I suggest your try the Cosmolux VLRs first for a 20 minute session. They are probably more powerful than the OEM lamp and won't startle or surprise existing tanners. |

John, a little clarification if you please. I called to place my lamp order today and got a bit of confusing information. I was told that the Signature Series was about 2.8 UVB and the Signature Series Plus was about 3.0 can you help clear this up a bit? I'm trying to stay as close to the Cosmolux 160W VHR as possible.
I also decided to go with the Cosmolux VLR 100 W in the Dr. Kern Blue Dream for the lamps that have failed. I read your earlier post here and made my choice based on your input. Hopefully they will match up closely. I'm a bit disappointed with Dr. Kern themselves, they seem to be real slow to provide needed replacements that were requested a couple weeks ago. |

bsmart,
The regular Signature Series is about 3% uvb. The Signature Series Plus is more like a 3.8% uvb.(much stronger than the VHR.) VLR should provide good color in that Dr Kern unit. |

John, I suggest you share that information with your sales people. I got 2 different answers, from the 2 people I talked with there, and neither of them had the answer you provided here. If you are correct, I'm sure glad I decided to go with the Signature Series instead of the Sig. Series Plus. It will more closely match the Cosmolux VHRTT which is what I was shooting for.
