do the vhr-tt in real tanning life really have a tad more "b" or do they tan the same as the vhr.

I have regular VHR's 160 in two of my beds and the TT's in one of them. You can definetly tell the difference in the two. The TT's have a shorter tan session and get more of the red in the tanner. I hope this helps.

Corvette:

Sorry for the delay in answering your question but I have been busy getting ready for the 2/7 & 2/8/02 FDA meeting. Yes, we have tested the Cosmedico VHR and VHR-TT sunlamps and we have also tested the comparable Hereaus sunlamps.

First of all, in our standard test array and in our test stand, the Hereaus 23/160 R's should not, in our opinion, be considered to be "compatible" to either the VHR or VHR-TT because it does not fall within the "plus or minus 10%" variance allowance mandated by current FDA regulations. If, as we have recommended, the "tolerance" is changed to "plus 50%" (longer te times) and "minus 15%" (shorter te times), they may become (just barely!) compatible to the VHR-TT's but not the VHR's.

The current VHR's and the 20/160 R's both have te (time to 4.0 MED) times of a little over 11 minutes in our standard vertical test array (stand up unit) and the VHR-TT has a time of slightly over 10 minutes. The 23/160 R has a time of slightly under 9 minutes.

What may be of interest to you is that the current production "batches" of VHR's are very close (in fact, they are, in our opinion, a tiny bit stronger!) to the ones that were first introduced a few years ago. Several "batches" produced after the production was moved to Canada were noticibly "weaker" (1 - 2 minute longer te times) and, if your customers were like ours, they noticed the change.

Therefore, the new VHR's appear to have returned to their previous "strength" (or a little more) and the VHR-TT's are, while still being compatible to VHR's (which is important!) shave a little more than a minute off the te time. [For instance, we would recommend that you cut the MTI (maximum timer interval) down from 11 minutes to 10 minutes on stand up booths if you switch from VHR's to VHR-TT's.]

The problem that we (and others) have had with the Hereaus sunlamps is the high "failure rate" at approximately 400 - 500 hours and their "useful life" does not extend much further. As you know, VHR's (and presumedly VHR-TT's) last a minimum of 800 hours and we routinely get 900-1000 hours of "useful life" (before they degrade from 100% to 70%) from them. The Hereaus dealer (Bronznet) has been very good about replacing "failed" sunlamps but there is still the aggravation of changing "failed" sunlamps every week (I don't know about you, but I don't want to get "under the hood" any more often than I have to).

We are now testing the VHR and VHR-TT 140 watt sunlamps and I will report that test data later. So far, they look very good and appear to follow the same pattern as their 160 watt cousins.

Hope this helps.

Don

I have a lay down 160 watt bed & a Sundazzler 160 watt booth. I have 23/160 Hereaus in the lay down & I need to replace my lamps in the booth. Is it best to use a different lamp to make it a different tan then the lay down?

Don, my lay down is 8 minutes. Are you saying that's not enough time to get a tan? And what about my booth?

Thanks for your help, as always!

Ginger:

We have 3 Sun Dazzler's and the adoption of the VHR-TT makes it a 10 minute MYI (maximum timer interval) unit. If you use the VHR, it will remain a 11 minute MYI (as labeled) unit.

I would guess that you have a Tanses or Giant Sun sunbed since they are the only two that "claim" an 8 minute MTI (maximum timer interval). Let me know what sunbed you are using and I will post a reply to your sunlamp question.
