I posted this earlier, with no reply. But... We are starting our first salon. I'm overwhelmed with the bed choices. I can't help but notice they all seem to use the same bulbs or similiar bulbs but why are some soooo much more expensive? Does anybody have experience with Tanses? We are looking into these beds and before we make a decision I want to know of any problems, likes, dislikes ect... Or the Ovation line??

Angie,I started a salon with big impressive beds, thinking the following formula wopuld work:1. THE MOST IMPRESSIVE BEDS2. THE NICEST/CLEANEST SALON3. KNOWLEGABLE & FRIENDLY STAFFGuess what. IT DOES NOT WORK.Having amazing beds throughout the salon gives customers NOTHING to compare your beds to. Use 28-32 bulb base beds, and make your upgrade beds WORTH THE MONEY. That is the only way you make money. Trust me on this one.You mentioned Tanses. They are good beds but have poor ventilation. If you live in the southern states, be prepared to have heat problems, unless you spend the $$$ to get AC & good ventilation. Tan America's are good and with their ventilation system, you'll save on heat problems. Pick a bed well made and durable, and you'll have no problems. What you should be more conserned with is not as much the bed itself, but the support you get from your salesperson. In my experience that is far more important. Many companies make beds that will make you a lot of money, but how many of them will treat you like family is the question.

Thanks all for the input! I just contacted Tan America today and they are sending me out some info. I thought they would be alot more pricey than they are. They have sooo many "bells and whistles"!! Would you recommend still using an outside fan for the tanners? Or are the "seabreeze" feature seem to do the trick? Also the 28bulb unit, is it a wise investment?(I was told no bells on this one) or should we go for the 32 bulb? Too many decisions!!

Angie...make your entry level beds just that entry level..give your clients a GOOD reason to upgrade, sometimes a 32 or 34 bulb bed will tan so well that your clients may say bag the xtra and just tan with the standard bed. Who ever you buy make sure you maintain them impeccably, good luck

Okay Jim,Now I'm a little confused... I was planning on making my standard base beds with 28 to 30 bulbs and no face tanner. Are you saying that I should make my entry level bed a higher bulb count? Please clarify. Maybe I misunderstood.Laurie

Depending on your area and demographics I believe 24-28 lamp beds are more than acceptabe for an entry level bed. You will also need to base this on what your competition offers as well. Tanses beds are extremely hot at least there larger upgrade beds are. The Ovation beds are a very good line and Heartland tanning is a good company to work with. I've allways found that you really should try and offer a different mix than your competition not necisarily higher priced just different. You must also look at all beds based on the availabilty of technical support and parts as well as plastiv versus metal frame beds
