I have seen so many poor repairs by salon owners of simple problems it isn't funny. Yea most people can reconnect a burned wire. But 90% of the time the re-stripping of the wire cuts half the strands, or the terminals aren't properlly tightened, or wires are left exposed or too close to each other, etc, etc. And that's if the salon owner even repaired the original issue in the first place.

I think most salon owners know, or should know, their limitations. If you're "mechanically inclinded", then go for it. Otherwise, be prepaired to pay someone like me for 4 hours instead of 1 hour, like my customer did yesterday to diagnose, rebuild, and retube his Mystic that his employee's husband tried to fix and messed up.

Or, also had a customer recently try a simple thing like changing a lampholder on an Ultrasun. Problem is is that they shorted out the wires and ended up calling me out anyway.

Great info! Especially what Chris said. I didn't think about that aspect of it. I'd sure hate to change a lamp or something, and have it backfire on me and toast my customer. Not good. Thanks for the helpful insights everyone.

Lamps, fan filters, acrylic cleaning, stuff like that you should be able to, or learn to do if you have the time. That's basic maintenance that everyone should be capable of doing.

that's to funny calling an electrician to change a lamp. last week i replaced a burned out timer board. other then turning off the main breaker to me that job was more like a computer tech's job then an electricians.

Easy there, Trigger. You got lucky - nothing more. You coulda blown the entire place sky high with that little (I forget the phrase now) of yours! Think about your kids, for Crist's Sake (should "sake" be capitalized there?) woman! Don't ever let me catch you boasting about anything other than replacing a lamp again - or else you'll have to come and help me fix my stuff too ...
