Unhappy STARPOWER DRIVING ME CUH-RAZY!!

ETS STARPOWER 52 4F - YEAR 2001
LAMPS FLICKERING OFF AND ON IN THE CANOPY AND ON THE SIDES - LOOKS LIKE VEGAS IN THERE! RANDOM BULBS - NOT ALWAYS THE SAME ONES AND NONE IN THE BENCH.
HERE'S WHAT WE'VE DONE:
UPPED THE AMPS IN THE BREAKER BOX FROM 40 TO 60.
CHANGED OUT THE CAPACITORS IN THE BALLAST TRAY.
CHANGED OUT ALL THE STARTERS.
WHAT'S NEXT? IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN:
NEW BUCKBOOSTER, NEW BALLASTS OR NEW WIRE HARNESSES - WHICH LOOK LIKE A PAIN IN THE UNOWAT TO CHANGE, BTW.

Re: STARPOWER DRIVING ME CUH-RAZY!!

What is the voltage at the bed? Sounds like low voltage. What kind of starters? There was/are some "smart start" pieces of crap being sold that are... pieces of crap.

Your lamps in the star power are daisy chained. check wiring from ballest to balest. You may have some wires that have come loose and will eventually frie.

Re: STARPOWER DRIVING ME CUH-RAZY!!

Low voltage. ...and if you changed out the breaker to a higher one, make sure that the wire is sufficient for the breaker. #8 wire will take a max. 40 amp breaker and #6 wire will take a 60 amp max. breaker. If the bed was not tripping the 40 amp then put that one back in.

Wire your booster like this.

This post is a prime example of penny wise and pound foolish. Trying to save a buck by doing things yourself is just plain dumb and dangerous when you have no clue on what you are doing and what you are dealing with. All of the time down and money spent on guessing ends up to be way more then just calling in someone in the first place that knows what to do and how to fix it.

What he said.... how do you "up the amps in a breaker box" LOL Just Kidding... and "Ballast" is spelled this way. Sounds to me like you have a voltage issue.

Re: STARPOWER DRIVING ME CUH-RAZY!!

This bed has it ran properly for a given length of time and then begun to do the flickering? If you have changed out the capacitors, and its random lamps, this sounds like a voltage issue. the tranformer.. first.. is there a transformer? Secondly the lmaps in the bench are most likely 100s and the top are 160s, some of the ballasts in the past were problematic could be a ballast problem. But this flickering sure sounds like a low voltage issue to me, can you have someone check out the voltage while the bed is on and running so we cansee where it is when the load is on it. Has to be between 220-230 volts, if lower say like 215 its likely your booster has been improperly wired.
Then maybe you had a voltage surge which could have affected the ballasts.

Re: STARPOWER DRIVING ME CUH-RAZY!!

Changing out the amperage on the breaker won't affect what the bed is drawing it wouldn't have any impact on the voltage. It would just allow more load, and your problem isn't in the fact that yoru breaker is tripping, but yet that your lamps are not fireing correctly. You have changed out starters.. are they identical to the ones that came with this unit? The lamps in the top and sides how long has it been since you changed those till the time this problem started?
are all you cooling fans working? Wish I could just see that thing...it's frustrating trying to do this over the net...!

Re: STARPOWER DRIVING ME CUH-RAZY!!

Oh come on, I was going to suggest that pinky jones change out all the ballasts... one at a time of course, and get a wire harness with bigger wires so that the lamps will get more voltage, or er um... amps, yea that's it, lamps with more amps, that's the problem right there.
