Got wood?

Hi all,

Part of the remodeling involved moving an old Hex standup unit. Made 1992.

What the heck is up with the wood? I mean this this in ENTIRELY made from those big log things with leaves on the ends! To say the least I thought it was amusing!

Its amazing what flat black paint can do to paneling though Darn thing only looks 10 years old now!

So when was wood last used to make a bed? Still making them from it?

Anyone know anything about these? Having a problem. Panel 1, on the left, half lights up. The next two panels are out completely and four and five are fine.

There are bus fuses, I assume a couple blew. Its unplugged since its been moved. If one bus fuse blew, thats one thing, but would seem a couple did. Could there be a ballast issue?

Re: Got wood?

no :( If I did I would have tested each fuse and the outlet for voltage.

All the ETS beds we have use buck boosters, this one did not have one hooked up. 220v like the ETS beds on the specs though.

8285.4 hours. 800 hours in operation here.

Re: Got wood?

Those Hex's are very simple. If its a ballast issue it will only affect 2 lamps.I think its 2 lamp per ballast if I remember correctly.Check the relays in the panel.IF you have whole sides out,I would think some wiring isn't connected properly.

I just tore one down and sold one a couple months back.

Re: Got wood?

One BIG thing I forget to clarify. The bed failed BEFORE it was moved. I had planned on moving it anyway, the failure simply sped that project up.

I did check, one ballast for two lamps. There are 8 lamps per panel, 4 ballasts.

edit: Talked to the former owner, knows for a fact 220v is coming out of the outlets. I will see if I can get a meter to check, but he was sure. Guess no need for bucks on all the beds then!

Re: Got wood?

A whole panel out, bad fuse, couple lamps out, bad ballast or bad lamp. One bad lamp will put out two.

Ballasts are 120 volts and do not need any boosters.

Hex is still built that way, nothing has changed.

Thank you. Wonder if it was originally wired wrong, being the first panel is half out and the next two are completely.

The ballasts operate at 120v? Why does the unit have 220V? Labeled on the power box too.

Well since it now moved and I have no way to power it up til the electrician gets here, I will put in new fuses and wait and see. I guess if its totally dead I dont really care. Most customers did not like it, but it had a small following and was the one the employees usually used.

Re: Got wood?

Like Brian said, or when you hooked the wires up on top you have something wrong, neutral missing etc. Normally bad fuse or holder. And the old Klafsuns are wood. Call them woody's. By a Suncapsule and dump the hex. No booster needed with the HEX, and they go through lamps like crazy. Good Luck.

Re: Got wood?

if you want to dress it up get some formica and cover the panels, it looks a lot better than the paneling. I had one years ago, it had no problem tanning people, it just had a bad look to it so i recovered the panels and had some grafics cut for it and it looked better, but mine was only a 40 lamp and all of my clients needed the lamps on the door so i eventually sold it. i believe you can buy the new vented floor for it if you want.
