I need some help

My friend purchased a residential tanning bed in june and about after a month she got it there was a lamp in the canopy that wasn't working so she called the company and they told her that it probably got loose during shipping and to take the acrylic out and adjust it. So she did and all was fine until about a month ago.
The lamp stopped working again(same one) so she did the same thing and it worked for about 4 tans and then she said it stopped working again. So I told to switch that lamp with a different one and she did. So I get a phonecall from her today saying that she was tanning and she heard a little popping noise and I bright burst of light and the lamp went out. So she finished her tan and turned it back on and now it isn't working. So does anyone know what I can do to help her?
Thanks in Advance!
-Chreen

I'm probably not the one to answer but I would put a new starter in it. It's very easy to do. :) If Brian Oshman sees your post he'll give you good advice. :)

Re: I need some help

You said that you moved the lamp and it still went out. Did the problem move with the lamp or stay with the lamp position?

If the problem moved then the lamp is bad. You can order one or several to have as spares.

If the problem stayed in that position even though you moved the lamp then it sounds as if the lampholder went bad and either the wire needs to be pushed back into the back of the lampholder or the lampholder burned up and needs to be replaced.

I don't know if she used the right manufacturer bulb, that could have caused the light to blow out, but before it blew out it sounds like the ballast went out or the starter. I'd call the manufacturer of the bed. If she bought it new there should still be a warranty.

Re: I need some help

Usually ballasts control two or more lamps so if it was a ballast going out I think you would have more than one lamp with problems. I agree with Brian, check both ends of the lamp holder and look for burn marks or loose connections, that's probably where your problem is. Make sure you cut the power from the bed before you try to work on anything though.
