How Much Power to Bed?

All,

Thanks in advance for your help. I love these forums!!!

Anyway, I have a bed that states that it is 120/240V and 45A. I currently have a 240V plug installed with a 40A circuit breaker. Will that work? If it will not work, what guage of wire do I need to run to the 240V socket and what size circuit breaker do I need? And what size wire do I need to run from the plug to the electrical supply lead?

Also, how do I know if my building has enough power for all the beds?

Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks again!

Re: How Much Power to Bed?

#6 wire. Two hots, one neutral, one ground. 50 amp two pole breaker. If you are using a plug and recepticle the NEMA numbers would be 14-50P plug and 14-50R recepticle or you could install a disconnect.

Since it states that it is 120/240 volt means that it has magnetic ballasts that are 120 volts and if your service is three phase delta, do not install this bed on the red leg of the service. If you have a single phase service or a WYE 120/208 service then there is no red leg. The red leg is over 200 volts to ground or neutral and will overpower the ballasts in this particular application.

Re: How Much Power to Bed?

You're welcome. Also, beds with magnetic ballasts do not need boosters.
