ergo 450 e40 error

My ergo classic 450 is kicking out an e40 code. I know it is a fan code. I have checked the vents, and they are clear. I switched the two fan boards around to see if one was bad. Sometimes the bed will run and sometimes the error code kicks out. Bottom line: sometimes the fan kicks on and sometimes it doesn't. Any suggestions?

Re: ergo 450 e40 error

Check your airflow switch at the main fan. It is not turning on when the fan starts. It is either bent or broken or the contacts are bad or a wire is off.

Pop the bench. You will find it on the side of the main fan.

Another thing to check is ambient temperature. If the bed is too cold, the fan will not spin fast enough to draw in the airflow switch and cause the error.

Does this switch look like a paddle?

Re: ergo 450 e40 error

It will look something like this. This is not the exact one but similar. It will be mounted right in the center of the fan.

Another thing to check is the ambient temperature sensor. It could be bad and not be sending the signal that the bed is getting hotter and speeding the fan up.

It will be on the front of the ballast box in the bottom. It will look like a small silver cylinder about 1/4" around by about 1" long and have a grey cable that comes out of it.

If you have a meter, disconnect it and check resistance. The resistance will be in the 2K range and will change with temp. You can warm it up with your fingers and see if the resistance changes.

Re: ergo 450 e40 error

Maybe the fan is bad or the fan capacitor.
