ETS Star Power 52/4F Help

I bought a ETS Star Power 52/4F Tannig bed from a Saon who was going out of business. The bed is approx. 7 years old and ETS won't retun my calls. I can't get the shoulder tanner to work and now one of the facials is not coming on. I have replaced the ballast, the starters and the relay switch to the shoulder tanner to no avail. I am just about to my wits end with this bed! Can someone PLEASE HELP ME???????? Thanks any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Debi

Re: ETS Star Power 52/4F Help

I havne't worked on this particular unit but is there a seperate switch to turn the shoulder tanners on and off? Also, I doubt there is a separate contactor for the shoulder tanners it will be combined with facials or something. Your facial issue could be a few things, thermo, ignitor, ballast, lamp, lamp holder etc. Do you have a volt meter and know how to use it? You can go to tanningbedrepair.com and see who is in your area for service. Might check with Brian O so see if he services your area (Sun Doctors). Good Luck.

Re: ETS Star Power 52/4F Help

i also have an ETS bed about the same age-42 lamps/100 watt/3 facials-15 minute bed.
i relamped it last week with different but compaitable lamps-and different facials
i noticed that its starting to make a really weird vibrating noise on start up-its worse with the
canopy up-but you can still hear it when its down.
have any thoughts to this one?
thanks

Re: ETS Star Power 52/4F Help

is the noise in the facial? I found in my Starpower that some of the Philips facial lamps were a millimeter too short and there was a buzzing when the electricity connected, I switched out for Hareus and the noise stopped.

yea-there is a buzzing in the facial on startup. its because the philips are a little to short huh?
makes sense. does it hurt anything to run it like this tho?
and it very well could be a bad fan.
i'll take it apart this weekend and check it out again.

This is normal as the ballast generates a magnetic field and during lamp startup is when the most current is passes through the ballast, like a surge and vibrates the ballast making that noise.

The other problem sounds like a bad fan.

The ballast is in the facial cassette?

Re: ETS Star Power 52/4F Help

Now let's get the sounds correct.

The buzz is from the ballast upon startup. Normal.

A light buzz will be the high voltage portion of the ignitor and is also normal.

The rattle is from the bad fan upon startup and will sound different with top up or down and if the fan is cold or has been used for awhile. The blades will wobble and make a vvvv...vvvv...vvvv....vvvv sound. Replace the fan.

Lamps that are too short will not make good contact and make a sizzling sound. This is arcing between the lamp end and the lampholder. Let it go too long and it will burn the ends. THe lampholders will need to be replaced. They should look shiny, not black and burned.

Philips 400 watt clip ins come in two lengths and two diameters so you are just getting the wrong lamp, not a bad one.
