I'm sure you're right. I thought I remembered that all the ballasts were in a tray underneath the bed on this model (The Starpower). But I think we are trouble-shooting a couple of different models in this thread. I'm thoroughly confused now. I agree with the main fans causing a vibration at start-up though.

The facial ballast are in the tray. The facial ballast are in the canopy at the foot of the unit in the 432 and lower.

Daaaaaaammmmm! You're mod material! hehe In my experience, buzzing noises coming directly from the facial cassette area are usually caused by lamps and lampholders - I don't think I've ever heard a buzzing from HP wire-lead lamps.
