bulbs light NO fans very hot!

Royal Sun 32 no facials.
bulbs come on but not lower fan. Fan on canopy comes on but seems slow. Tested upper halifax board, steady red light, should mean upper fan OK. Tested lower halifax and blinking red light, should mean fan in-op however, troubleshooting instructions said to remove the C+ and C- wires from halifax and see if bed starts, bulbs light but no fans should mean heat sensor inop...
So how can I determine if it's heat sensor or fan issue?
Prior had sporadic problem where cooling fans stopped running about 10 minutes into session, then would turn back on a few minutes later. Was never able to duplicate that. But after testing tonight (removing C+/C- see if bed starts) now everytime I start a session the internal bench fan is in-op and the canopy fan seems slower. Bed gets HOT fast!
Still busy need repair fast!
Thanks!

Re: bulbs light NO fans very hot!

Measure the voltage at the fan. Should be 230 (or whatever your actual line voltage is) If there is voltage, the fan is bad. If there is no voltage, the board is bad or bad sensor. You can ring out the sensor with an ohmmeter.

DO not run the bed at all with the fan not running. (this does not apply for troubleshooting). If you need to run it for prolonged periods for troubleshooting then disable the lamps by removing them, or the acrylic to prevent melting, or the fuse to the lamps.

Re: bulbs light NO fans very hot!

You could also have a bad fan capacitor which is thermaling the protection circuit in the fan or the protection circuit is bad and that just requires replacing the fan.

Also, just make sure it isn't as simple as a broken wire.

Re: bulbs light NO fans very hot!

I had a similar issue like this. The fans only seemed to come on when the canopy was up.

Turns out the fans had their own power cord that was loose and break connection when you closed the canopy.

Watch out. You will lose MANY USEFUL HOURS on those lamps with the fans off. HUNDREDS if they get hot enough.

Re: bulbs light NO fans very hot!

The fan and capacitor tested good and can't find any bad wires. The canopy fan is running but not at full speed and the bench fan wasn't running at all. The F3 fuse on the main board was slightly discolored so I replaced that and then got bench fan to run but not at full speed.

Assuming the canopy and bench fans work independently the only common link was main board right? I was told to test the main board you have someone flip the breaker while you watch the board if the red light blinks 5 times it's good board. (true?) I tested and got 5 blinks but wasn't convienced so I swaped out main board with identicle bed and got both fans running but...got a spark and "pop" from the canopy hall effects board (now C+ wire fried) and the F2 & F3 fuses fried on main board. I replaced those fuses and put that main board back into it's original working bed (don't need two beds down) and it runs fine (thank god) so it seems the problem is the main board or hall effects board...didn't want to risk swaping that out, if I fried another hall effects borad I'd have two beds down.
